Osman Gazi was planning to besiege Iznik, the former capital of the Anatolian Seljuk State. However, the Eastern Roman Emperor Andronikos II, who learned that his lands were under the occupation of Osman Gazi, was determined to stop Osman Gazi and reclaim the land he lost.
