A short exploration of the Battlefield of Blore Heath. I'd never been here before and there is very little overt marking of the field, so I had to do some walking around to get oriented. Just as well because it was a freezing cold morning. I was surprised at how deep and wide the ravine was that crosses the field. Before visiting I had imagined it would have been just a small stream. I can only assume that the Yorkist dummy-retreat was significant and convincing, because I find it hard to understand why the Lancastrians would give up their advantage and attack across such difficult ground. Anyway, I had a good look around and I think I have the measure of the field now.
