Question: I’m at an early stage learning this stuff. When you say F major pentatonic scale at 10:24, and you show the shape, I thought if you use that shape it would be the F minor pentatonic or the G major pentatonic. The minor starts on the nut side of of the shape, and the major on the bridge side. Of course I could be wrong. Thanks for a great lesson. Seeing the chord shapes and scale shapes over the BB box was great. Thank you.

Thanks, man! I've been watching BB Box breakdowns, and they're all "good," but this is GREAT- and the 1st that actually helped me to understand how to identify and follow the chord changes, "see" and expand the scales that work, and why. I blown away. I'm 64 and have been struggling with teaching this old dog new tricks...or in this case, new licks. Liked and subbed!

Thank You for Your effort. It seems good. But what really backs me up from guitar tutorials is when teacher show scale/lick on tab, then plays through it, then plays through it calling each and every note, then play it again. Maybe some people love it, i don't know...

Fantastic video. Perfect for where I am. That is trying to learn how to solo over chord shapes using triads and scales to indicate the harmony. A month ago it would have been overwhelming. Based on that I have a small suggestion. * While I can see in retrospect that the prerequisites are in the text summary, I had to work to understand them. It would have been helpful to have them listed in a bullet point list. * For this lesson perhaps something like the following... • I, IV, V progression in C (8th fret) • triads - D shape, root on B string • triads - F shape, root on E string • scales - major, major & minor pentatonic * I'm not positive the above is completely correct, because I need to work on the lesson with my guitar. I "know" the necessary prerequisites, but I still need to think about them. * Great lesson. It integrates a number of concepts I've been working on using something I always wanted to learn. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the great info/demo. BTW on side 2 of Abbey Road, aren’t John, Paul, and George using quite a bit of pentatonic as they take turns playing through the end, of “The End”?

I concur with our Scottish buddy Antony Williams below (my wife is Scottish so I'd better!) and this one really does not waste an ounce of useless material!! This is most definitely a super quality condensed vital lesson on soloing and following the chords that most of us would be smart to tackle in bits and pieces and then repeat.......like shampooing!! Great job, Rob!! Jim C.

I would like to know why you have written the fm pent scale with sharps. This is very misleading. In fm G# is not the same as Ab. Never was and never will be. It's not good theory.

I have to say this is a clever and comprehensive lesson. I applaud the way you start with a relatively simple concept like the BB Box and @#$%^ whap, before you know it you are rolling right into using the full major scale mixing major and minor pentatonic, CAGED , Triads and probaly more. Wow, it has taken years to basically understand what you just laid down here in 20 minutes. Nicely done!

I once asked Robben Ford what to play on the 4 chord .. but he stated that the minor pentatonic ( of the 4 chord ) should not be played on the 4 chord especially not when playing over a medium up tempo blues because the minor third does not sound right , a kinda sour to the ear . And i agree with that . It can , however be done on the 5 chord .
@swiftlessons
3 жыл бұрын
Robin definitely has a point, which is why I made sure to mention mixing in the major notes. You can play the minor 3 of the 4 chord, but it really needs to be in passing and followed up by the major 3 of that chord. On the other hand, you can absolutely play the minor pentatonic of the 1 chord over the 4 chord, because the minor 3 in that scale is the dominant 7 of the 4 chord.
