Saw Brian, just over a month ago. Bucket list item! 7 June 2022. Three days earlier, I turned 64. Brian and Sir Paul both hit 80, later that month. Juneteenth? That is the day between Brian and Paul's birthdays. They had to walk Brian out, with a walker, but, at the white piano, he KILLED the songs. Alan and Matt Jardine did everything they needed to, to make the show AMAZING! Matt was almost as good as Carl, but those are MASSIVE shoes to fill. Alan, the everlasting, dependable support! I do NOT want to paint Alan into a bad corner, but he wouldn't say shit about anyone, even if he had a mouthful. Probably my favourite Beach Boy. Always there, always doing what he can! steve

IT was a well done Alto solo, Although it might have been overdubbed. This was in that period of time after Gerry Rafferty's tune ''Baker Street'' with the classic sax solo had popularized the kind of style displayed (apparently) by Mike. However prior to this demonstration I had not seen Mike display such extraordinary technique on his woodwinds. So I'm just a little bit suspicious of him.

This '86 version of the '65 /'66 classic, is one of my all-time Top 5 by The Beach Boys, & I say this as a fan from1962. Roger McGuinn's fantastic guitar, his Rickenbacker 370 12 string, & the " Jingle-Jangle" sound, added with Steve Douglas from the legendary " Wrecking Crew" , & his Tenor Sax, make what IS a Beach Boys song by itself, into a classic remake, one to surely challenge The Mamas & The Papas original version. The harmonies , with Al & Carl taking leads, and Bruce hitting the high notes perfectly, make this song another BB's classic for all-time. I'm hard pressed to name a better remake, & both John & Michelle Phillips agreed. Terry Melcher gets all the credit, for getting both McGuinn & Douglas , as he produced the song. Notably, BW had NOTHING AT ALL, to do with making this ; perhaps that helps explain his obvious discomfort & lack of interest in this appearance on " Solid Gold ". plainly, he's out of place & he knows it. That's all due to Eugene Landy, who insisted on being credited as co-producer, & demanding royalties for BW's participation. Melcher told him to take a hike, so Brian was left out of the recording. --------------MJL, 76 y/o

#1 credit for this fantastic version of the John & Michelle Phillips classic, goes to the Late Terry Melcher. It was his idea to get Roger McGuinn & his 370 Rickenbacker 12 string ------and, his idea for that fantastic sax bridge, which I still believe had to be Steve Douglas, from The Wrecking Crew. Vocals were arranged by Carl & Bruce, resulting in a rocked-up Beach Boys version of a song that came so naturally to them, it is almost as if BW & Mike Love could have written it. ---------------MJL, 75 y/o

INDEED "Elora", this was a stage 'playback' performance from SOLID GOLD; there's NO doubt about it. As a "self-proclaimed" SOLID GOLD "sort-of" expert in classic, vintage & rare SOLID GOLD episodes, this one REALLY caught me off guard; I thought I had seen all or most episodes, but watching this now, proves I still had one more to go! It does look very, very heart-warming, to see all the main Beach Boys up front & center stage...like Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, Mike Love and the two brothers that were still with us at that time...Carl & Brian Wilson. How fitting it was too, to have them record (at an earlier time of course) a staple song in American music, "California Dreamin' " that appeared on their 1986 greatest hits album, "MADE IN THE U.S.A.", which contained several hits from the past, as well as two new recordings, one of which, was their cover version of the said song, "California Dreamin' ". Well now...we learn something new everyday, boys & girls! BCRadio

I like this version of the song better than the Mamas and the Papa's. I sed to come home around midnight after doing afternoon shift, l'd put on my Beach Boys made in U.S.A. tape, crank it up and sing along in the shower. Great way to get rid of stress. I used to be able to hit most of the high notes, but l was alot younger and didn't have asthma.

Mikey is so good, he can play different notes, without moving his fingers. Mikey "Love." the Milli Vanilli of the Beach Boys. (Wait, since he as sued all 3 Wilson boys, for the Band's name, Mikey Love now owns the Beach Boys tribute band.) Yes, my lifetime favorite band, is owned by Hateful Mikey! Just glad that The Brian Wilson Band has a show, here in Phoenix this summer. 7 June 2022, in Phoenix. Yes I do have tickets. steve

@@steveskouson9620 To be fair, Al is completely playing in a different key on guitar here. If he was actually playing, he’d be a fourth below the band (key of C, whereas the song is in E).
