"Wha'ppen" was HUGELY underrated, but it was my all time favorite English Beat album. I wore it out in the early 80's.

One of and I mean one of the most underrated albums. Wha,appen was just a all around good time to just live up in the woods and beaches with no care in the world but if my pickup will start that morning

@Jennifer B Martin Brown I can hardly believe he's passed away. I'm especially shocked because he seemed so fit and energetic for his age (as he was when he was young). I like to think he's having a jamming session with Saxa, John Bradbury, Prince Buster, Desmond Dekker and Judge Dread in whatever dimension of existence they're now in. His passing hurts although I never knew him on a "personal" level (though I did get to shake his hand once). But I do know a couple of people who knew him personally and they said he was a lovely guy.

My deck didn't have auto stylus lift off, I used to listen to this album in bed with headphones on, fall asleep and wore the click off at the end of the tracks - bliss to hear these again, the layers of sound and production is immense. Thank you for posting this and others.

Does anyone know the origin of the second album which appeals to me more than the other two? I have read it was about something that happened with them and the label, hence the title, "Wha'ppen". Please share...

So do I but The Beat were broader than that. Although they were often called a ska band (because of their connection with 2-Tone), they played a mixture of ska, reggae and pop, and a couple of their songs (on the first album) were almost punk. There were also Latin, African and calypso influences in their music.

Umm, this is tremendous. These mofo's wrote it at the age of 20 (ish). Was it a remake? The English Beat. Thanks. Ranking Roger, please make a good place even better. Do not rest in peace. Dance and make all of your new pals happy. Say writeup to Kelly. Thanks.
