And then when I read its like...I want to listen to something while I read and then I get distracted by whats playing and it goes ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND.....LOL

Great collection of Beatle books! Do you have any of Bruce Spizer's books. I am thinking that you must have some of them. They are excellent books. I have purchased them as they were released. He is still going with the books! I remember buying and reading his first one on VJ Records (which used to be here in Chicago). It was really fascinating to me and quite detailed. It is truly amazing on the amount of Beatle books there are - and there is no end to them every year. So many people come up with different angles to cover.

I have Expedit and Kallax shelving. My milk crates just wouldn't hold the collection anymore.... A lot of people around here went to Ikea for their cheap breakfast's... LOL .... Beatles, bah humbug. Now books on the other hand I love. I used to collect 1st edition hard covers, my max amount I'd spend on one was 500. It was quite the collection. I had to sell it a long time ago when I ran into some financial difficulties. You being from California would be very familiar with a writer I had all of his books in first edition even his first book "A Cup of Gold". That was John Steinbeck. I dealt with rare book dealers from all over the world. I love the smell of old books too. They smell so academic. LOL ... Cheers Mazzy.

@@revkarl Mid 70s was a good time to collect, even some book sellers had no idea the value of some of the books on their shelves. I scored a second edition before publication of the Grapes of Wrath in a bookstore downtown for $5. A couple of years ago I decided to price some of the books I sold 4 decades ago and couldn't believe how much the prices went up. For instance the cheapest Steinbeck in my day was East of Eden and I paid $10 for my copies, I had 3 of them but now the same book is going for 600 and up. I stopped investigating the book prices shortly after because it was just too painful. LOL... Whey even the kids book the Red Pony I had all 3 stares of the first edition. It was quite the collection. For Steinbeck my main competition for his books was a fellow from Japan. He'd fly around the world visiting bookstores looking for Steinbeck. He told my rare book dealer Stephen Temple that Toronto used to be a real good town for picking up rare Steinbeck books but for some reason the availability of Steinbeck's books have become scarce in Toronto. That's when my book dealer told him about me scouring the shelves in Toronto for Steinbeck. When I sold my collection to a dealer the Japanese guy actually bought a bunch of them. It was a great pastime, I thoroughly enjoyed the collecting of those musty old tomes.... Cheers Rev.

Fun! As you know, I was rearranging my Beatles shelves this week, too. 'Tis the season! I sold about 11 boxes of Beatles books to a fellow forum member about ten years ago, so slightly less shelf space needed these days. Although, I've been getting into the little hardbacks being published in the Netherlands about LP and single pressings from every corner of the world. Fun to see the designs! Seeing your books again up close reminds me of so many great books that I loved reading and using for research. I missed most of the Genesis volumes, but I did get Mike McCartney's book. It's amazing. And I loved the new McCartney Legacy book! Thanks :)

Hi Mazzy , You will read about the first time my late husband met John Lennon if you have the book "John Lennon" by Alan Clayson. If you Google "Google books John Lennon Alan Clayson Brian de Courcy" you should be able to read the paragraph online. It is described as a "laddish comment" about beìng impressed with Brian's handshake... but now it would be described as very un-PC! This occured at one of the four Beatles concerts in 1964 backstage at Melbourne's Festival Hall (aka The Stadium). 👱♀️❤

the annie leibovitz book of lennon photos that you dropped (you apologize to audience when you do so whereas i undoubtedly would lose all control of my faculties) is one of my most sought after books. i never knew the marsh book on 2nd album existed but i i understand his point of view. the photo book of lennon in japan is one of 250 others i've never seen before and want to read and own there are 250 others that i have no use for. ("david b. noebel" is good as an epithet used when a beatle book is dropped: nothing more). you don't need to reign in beatle appreciation for all 4 members ever. thanks for schooling me on beatle books.

Amazing collection. Am I right in thinking that the Beatles only made two live appearances on American television: 2/9/64 (New York) and 2/23/64 (Miami Beach)?
@mazzysmusic
3 ай бұрын
They were on Ed Sullivan three weeks in a row. But the third week was taped at the same time as the second shoe taping from Miami.
@will27ns
3 ай бұрын
I stand corrected. Actually, Norm, the Miami show (Deauville Hotel) aired on 2/16. Their third Sullivan appearance on 2/23 was pre-recorded in New York on 2/9 earlier in the afternoon, before the live show at 8:00 PM. Those songs were then aired on their last Sullivan appearance on 2/23. It's surprising, but I guess Epstein had an exclusive contract with Sullivan, and they became so big so fast that further live TV served no real purpose. I believed The Beatles did quite a few TV appearances in England before their success in the States. By contrast, The Rolling Stones made TV appearances beyond Ed Sullivan, even a local show like Clay Cole. @@mazzysmusic

At some point as I got older, I almost exclusively stopped reading fiction to the point where 98% of my reading is of non-fiction. I noticed James Patterson's The Last Days of John Lennon high up on your shelf. I bought an A+ paperback copy early this year rom thrift for 25 cents. I'm out side of Montreal and we had to significant power failures this year (rarer these days); one late winter , the other early spring...lasting 12 hours and 36 hours respectively. I couldn't spin records 😋so I read half during one headlamp sitting and finished it during the second. For anyone who hasn't read it, it's like a bullet point overview of John's various eras from when when he first met Paul up, through his Mai Pang "lost weekend" year (you referenced) and to his reunion with Yoko; with occasional flash forward chapters in the days leading up to his assassination. Did you bother to read it? With the knowledge from your extensive collection, any one line comments or caveats before I pass it on to a friend?
