Written and sung by John Lennon. Recorded over several days in mid July 1969. Roughly 5 weeks before the Beatles, as a working band, ceased to exist. John Lennon's final masterpiece with the Beatles. Come Together reached #1 in the charts in early November. 1969. Paul McCartney's contribution to Come Together cannot be overstated. His bass playing sets the groove , his harmony vocal is unique. He is also credited for writing the electric piano solo. RNB

Even though Paul is sometimes credited with the piano solo it’s been stated by many including George Martin and Geoff Emmerick that John didn’t like what Paul was doing with the Piano solo so John took over and rewrote the solo and completely did it himself. Again it’s just a few of the people close to them that stated that so maybe I’m wrong but I wouldn’t doubt it.

What is so great about "the Lads" is that they had not just one, not two but THREE great song writers in the band!! John Lennon and Paul McCartney are the perennial powerhouses for the band, starting from their earliest work. However, right around 1965 - 66, Mr. George Harrison started to step up and get some great songs written and he put the world on notice! Then, in 1968 through 1970, he just brought the brilliance to the table and blew people way with songs like "Something" and "Here Comes The Sun"! The Beatles were an alchemy of 4 distinct and super-talented young men who found each other and took over the world! Period, end of story. The story of The Beatles, and the incredible music they created, is one for the books, baby. You should continue your trip down the Rabbit Hole!! By the way, "Come Together" was sung by John, with Paul on backing vocals.
@betsyab121

People seem to forget that John and Paul wrote songs together and separately. George started writing songs around 1964. But all four could sing lead vocals, which is unusual in most bands that tend to have one lead vocalist, like The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin. That's why The Beatles never get old: They constantly evolved in their songwriting and instrumentation. They led the way and everyone else followed. No one else could touch them in terms of quality and output!

Ever since I heard this song back in the day, it struck me and has remained my favorite Beatle song. I'm a musician and I've heard so many songs by so many people, still to this day, I've never heard anyone approach song writing with their level of freedom. It's like they rewrote the rules on song writing structure, whatever they did worked. Drums in the verses without cymbals, who does that? Great reaction. Much love.

I am a 74 year old Beatles fan since I was 16 and heard "I Want to Hold Your Hand" on the radio the day after Christmas in 1963 (that was the day it was released, I was IMMEDIATELY HOOKED and have been a fan ever since. SO wonderful to see you getting into the Beatles. You should listen to ALL their albums in the order they were released as they were when those of us were teens in 1964. Their recording years AS A GROUP started in 1962 through 1970. Just 8 short years and you need to hear how their music and lyrics EVOLVED from their first album "PLEASE PLEASE ME" to their FINAL ALBUMS "LET IT BE" and "ABBEY ROAD" THAT is why they are SO GOOD, they did all sorts of styles of music.....they never stayed the same. We NEVER knew WHAT their next album or single was going to SOUND LIKE. ENJOY your journey into the Beatles! You will discover that it is hard to pick any ONE FAVORITE SONG,

"Come Together" is a John Lennon song, and you can really tell the difference between them stylistically. Paul typically sings ballads (Yesterday, Hey Jude) and old-timey sounding songs, John generally sings the rockers and off-the-wall weird stuff. My favorite Beatles song could very well be a tie between "Here There and Everywhere" and "I am the Walrus", which is Paul at his most ballad-y and John at his weirdest respectively.

This song is special because of a reason that doesn't get mentioned much. This song has the best example of John Lennon's "Nonsense" writing style. He usually used that style in his psychedelic songs but here he uses it in a bluesy rocker and gives us a master class in the style. The lyrics here are mostly gibberish, but they tie around this mysterious figure around who we must all "come together". Lennon was able to write lyrics that seemingly make no sense, but magically impart a message. It's genius, no other songwriter pulled this off as well as he did.

Please, next do "Medley". At the end of the Abbey Road (1969) album from which "Come Together" is taken, there's so called "Medley". It's not official title of the song, it's in fact several short songs transforming one into next one. It starts with "Golden Slumbers" and goes till the end of "The End". FYI, this album was a farewell from the Group. The amount of talent within made it explode I guess. Most critics say it's the peak of their musical talent. OK, but from me, "Revolver" is their best (made in 1966) LP. Also FYI, all four members sang very well (ALSO THE DRUMMER). Paul and George had smooth melodic voices while John and Ringo had a bit cracked ones. All th best to you from Beatles fan. PS kids song "Yellow Submarine" is sung by the drummer! :)

This is why the beatles were so influential and popular, they were not ahead of their time as many believe, because for me they had no time. They pioneered so much and created music that fits in any time. This is the key to why I think they are the best band of all time, they have influenced so many music genres and other artists and had no obvious style, they just created music and much of it doesnt fit into any one genre.

You should look into the story of these guys! They have a whole anthology documentary. They went from rags to riches. Both Paul and John lost a parental figure at an early age. George grew up poor, Ringo had the most ordinary childhood of the four but he isnt even the original drummer of the beatles. He came on in 63' shortly after love me do. He was the best possible fit, he was already a seasoned professional for the younger beatles to look up to. This whole album was 🔥 because they knew their time as the beatles were coming to an end or at least going to be changing drastically.
