On this recording Mccartney starts on guitar and ends up on piano. I love the fact that he hesitates a few times on piano to seek the next chord and accompanying bass note. You can almost imagine his brain trying to envision his fingering on the guitar and trying to translate those notes to the piano.

I actually think it’s the other way around, the piano rendition sounds like it was at twickenham early in January, you can hear echoes and camera clicks. The guitar at the beginning also had george on the lap steel slide that they got while at apple studios later in January.

I love listening to the Beatles songwriting process. What always starts as a lot of chaos, with one Beatle playing a riff, some chord changes, a snippet of something, slowly peeks the interest of one, then two, then all three...joining in a adding things, evaluating, then either continuing that idea or dropping out and trying something else until you have something to move forward with. Very cool process.

At 2:28 it sounds remarkably like Maxwell's Silver Hammer! At 2:42 you can tell he really wants to incorporate some chromatic voice leading (D, C#, C, B, Bb, A) but hits a very dissonant b9 between the B in bass and C in treble. Fortunately, he sorts it out and continues the walk down!
