My mom insisted we get a new TV when she heard The Beatles were going to be on Ed Sullivan. She was almost as excited as the teenage girls in the audience, I didn't get it. I was 5 or 6 years old. And the mix is 75% Paul's mike instead of 50-50. But there were no good audio-mikes, there were no stage-monitors, there were no mixboards that could handle so many sound-sources. Heck, it wouldn't be until the mid-70s before those 'staples' were common. This is why lip-sync'ing was used constantly. Heck, even the 1969 REVOLUTION was a lip-sync'd video - in a bleepin' studio which should have all the advantages of that era's 'most modern' gear. But no...

The Beatles are THE greatest rock group of all time. I am far from alone in saying this. They are my favorite group of all time. I wouldn't say they haven't done a bad song, but, very few of their songs are bad. I could count their bad songs on my fingers. Most of them are great. No group has produced more great songs than the Beatles have. And they did it in such a short period of time.

More Beatles! They have such a huge catalog and they changed so much with each album. There is so much really good early live footage like this of them that it's a total rabbit hole for sure. But any of their stuff right up until they broke up is fantastic. They quit touring live kind of it the peak of their popularity and just did Studio albums except for that one last rooftop concert in London. They often had trouble playing live especially in stadiums because the sound equipment and the PA equipment back then was just so primitive compared to today and the screaming fans were so loud they often couldn't hear each other. Ringo would really emphasize the BackBeat and exaggerated just so that the others could feel it and stay on Tempo and then they also had to do a lot of eye contact.

The joy of The Beatles is the joy they give everyone. There is just this fantastic energy they offered that transcends the decades. I was born in '64. I became conscious of them probably a decade later (I think I fell in love with them when I watched the movie a Hard Day's Night on a rerun). That energy I felt discovering them, I still feel almost fifty years later. Their music, no matter the subject, just brings this spark. And when you dig down into their history, and discover just how much these "musically uneducated" lads from Liverpool evolved in the short time they were together...how much their music changed the landscape of popular music...it's amazing! You feel privilege to get them. I don't know if we'll ever see their like again. And I don't say that casually. For a group performing a song in 1964 to leave you feel so joyous in 2022...That says so much. Theirs is a timelessness that again...I don't know if we'll ever see their like again.

Our sixth grade graduating class was quite small, maybe 12 students, so we girls got permission to go off school grounds for lunch one day and on the way to our classmates house we stopped at the local record store and she bought the 45 rpm of I want to hold your hand/I saw her standing there. We must have played it 20 times A and B while dancing and looking at a layout, probably in Look or Life magazine of The Beatles. It was the first time I heard them of them. Needless to say, no lunch was eaten or even thought of that day.

Here's a little fun bit of trivia: Paul McCartney, in one form or another, opened three major music venues in Seattle, Washington. 1) The Seattle Center Coliseum** - With the Beatles in 1964 was the first rock concert ever held in that building. I believe it was the first actual music concert there. 2) The Kingdome - With WIngs was, again, the first rock concert in that building and only the 2nd public event ever held there, if memory serves. The first was, of all thing, a Billy Graham crusade. I happened to get dragged to the Billy Graham thing by my parents, but the WIngs Over America show on 10 June 1976 was my high school graduation present to myself. 3) SafeCo Field (now called T-Mobile Park) Just as Paul McCartney, solo on the 2013 "Out There" tour. **"The Coliseum" was renamed with the purchase of naming rights by Key Bank and became "Key Arena", but now Amazon has bought the naming rights and it's called "Climate Pledge Arena" - WTF?? "Climate Pledge" sounds like an eco-friendly furniture polish. 🤣🤣🤣

JAYY Yes you WOULD be screaming, like I did, and so many of us did. You have NO IDEA how EXCITING it was (but I can see you are DEFINITELY GETTING THERE) This is how we in the U.S. first saw them perform. Before that it was just 2 months of listening to their first Capitol album MEET THE BEATLES that went on sale in early January 1964 and VJ's (record label) album "INTRODUCING THE BEATLES" which was basically the Beatles FIRST album in the U.K. called "PLEASE PLEASE ME" and the few singles that came out (I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND) before their first Ed Sullivan Show which you are watching one of the songs they performed that night. They were SO DIFFERENT than ANY other music groups we had seen before them....THEIR HAIR, how smart they dressed, they were ALL so good looking, they were funny, witty, intelligent...I could go on and on. You really need to investigate some of the other videos, movies, documentaries on them to fully realize their personalities, etc. Look them up, there are SO many out there. I LOVE watching some one so young as you really falling in love like the Beatles like we did. It makes this 75 year old Beatle fan get excited watching a YOUNG person today discovering them AND APPRECIATING them. Keep up JAYY with your journey through the Beatles catalogue, I will be watching!!
