In terms of popularity, The Beatles surpassed the hysteria of Adolf Hitler. Lets face it, Hitler would have been outraged that four working class lads from Liverpool had been more popular than the Nazis.

Georgie probably couldn't know it when he wrote that song, but it proved to be a highlight of their last tours, wherever they may have taken place. He'd been inspired by Roger Mc Guinn's treatment of "The bells of Rhymney". I never got tired of listening to it since the very first time I heard it. The screaming atmosphere surrounding them was terrible indeed, but I still guess the main reason why they stopped touring was the misadventure in the Philippinas, and the constant threat of murder in the US tour at each venue, following the "Beatles vs Jesus Christ" mass hysteria. Noise or silence, they couldn't have gone on touring after that series anyway (and the Japanese tour was pretty weird too, yet not really traumatic).
