Incredible scenes. Australia 64 was probably the absolute crazed apex of Beatlemania. What it does to a young mind to go - seemingly overnight - from playing in front of 50 drunk Liverpudlians in a village hall to....this, is unfathomable.

The Beatles did an Amsterdam concert then to Hong Kong before going to Australia. All three tours Jimmy Nichols did the drumming for Ringo. Ringo joined them later in Australia. Jimmy Nichols faded into obscurity after that. Thanks Jimmy.

This is unbelievable! Bigger than NEW YORK! I estimate the pop of Adelaide at the time to be about 600-700,000 as it's about 1.3 million right now. Considering that this is unbelievable. However, I do think the 350,000 is slightly inflated. I've been at the town hall for the 97 crows grand final victory ticker tape which had over 100,000 and that was similar to this. All of King W St completely covered in people from n tce to Victoria sq

You are incorrect. They didn't just count the people in front of the town hall. They included all the others enroute to the city and elsewhere in the city. It was ratified worldwide as the biggest crowd that greeted the Beatles
@daleviker5884
2 жыл бұрын
@ 3122tan Angelo Quici is correct. The crowd in the city itself was only part of it, there were many thousands at the airport and crowds lined the streets all the way from the airport into the city. And it wasn't a one-off. There are similar photos from Melbourne and Sydney.

@jterpst1 I can't recall his name right now, but he's the drummer that took over for a few weeks while Ringo was in the hospital. It's easily looked up and he's in at least 3 or four other vids playing with The Beatles on KZitem.

I'm a beatle fan too & i don't get me wrong but i saw some one commenting "Beat That Bieber" for his/her information justin also had the same reception in mexico 2012 .He was doing his Believe promo world tour & about 300,000 people came just to see him. It was the biggest Concert of the year only Paul McCartney's concert had that much crowd !! & Even if it's not this big Jb does get treated royally all over the world cuz he's now the most fan followed singer in the world right now his millions of his fan girls go frenzy on him when they see him i've seen videos where girls cry or even faint seeing him !!

In Mexico they came for a free concert (don't know why...) Maybe Bieber will be a good musician in 5, 10 or 100 years..., but not yesterday and not today). By the way, The Rolling Stones played 2006 in Rio a free concert for 1.5 Mio. Listeners... But that's not the point. 1964 was another time. It was a phenomenon such spectacular receptions for a Pop-Band. A POP-BAND! No Politicians, Royals or that stuff. It shows, that in this aera was something going on with a bigger meaning...the Start of Modern Pop-Culture.

The reaction here to the Beatles is unmatched by any other pop/rock icon. This is literally the Beatles paralyzing an entire city. A 9 mile line all the way from the airport to the city with young and old filling either side of the road. People in trees all the way down and the buildings in the city filled with people looking out the windows.
