Poor Ringo, I never saw him crying before but you could really see that the relationship between him and George were as strong as they were real brothers. It always makes me sad to see the old footage, like George helping Ringo in the Let It Be Session for "Octupus's Garden" or writing and gifting songs for him like "It Don't Come Easy" which would eventually become a no. 1 hit. Ringo really loved him.

Ringo is the credited writer of "It Don't Come Easy" but George did lend a hand. All three of the other Beatles supported and aided Ringo's career, and he helped theirs. In many ways, Ringo was the glue of that group and he loved each of them like a brother, and showed up for each of them in key personal and professional moments. I'll always love Ringo's big heart and the way that the others just embraced him. He really is and was a terrific drummer, but as John put it, "he was a great Beatle". And the 4 Beatles were VERY tight-knit, more than any other band I can think of, other than perhaps a band that includes family (and Lord knows many of those don't get along half as well as the Lads did).

I grew up in Liverpool. I was 5 years old when The Beatles came on the scene, but I'd heard people talking about them and, even now, I remember that there was a strange vibration spreading around the city, some kind of sense of expectation. I'd just started listening to music, via my parents records. Dad had a load of classical stuff and mum had more up beat stuff. I loved all of it. Then there were pictures on the news and I recognised the places I was seeing on TV. Within just a few weeks EVERYBODY was talking about them, they were everywhere. The girls were arguing over who was the best looking, the "bring back Pete" movement was fading and the music was like nothing else. Fab days growing up in Liverpool then. Years later I attended The Liverpool Institute High school For Boys, which had been Paul and George's old school. After leaving school, I joined a band because I wanted to sing, we were rehearsing in The Casbah, in the same room The Beatles had used. Most of us in Liverpool wanted to be in a band, and that's still the case now. Being left-handed and playing guitar struck a chord with me (sorry about the pun!). Most families in Liverpool had an instrument in the house, a piano, guitar, banjo, or even just a pair of spoons or a comb and paper. That had been the case for years before The Beatles came on the scene, so music was the soundtrack for everybody back then, so The Beatles really were just four lads from down the road. George died on my birthday.

even though it was the press I can tell Paul felt good talking about George, at the end I could sense a weight had lifted off him; almost a relief to just talk about George

Damn George was just like Doc Holiday! Still looking out for their friends even with death knocking on their door.

If Paul McCartney ever said a cross word, I've never seen it or read about it. Always kind, patient and respectful. His appreciation for his fans is really evident in his shows and where he chooses to tour. I hope he's around another many years. Same goes for Ringo.

William commented Lennons death with a cold "It's a drag".

@@OlskZeri-tc5niThat was an in-joke between Paul and John. Whenever bad things happened, that’s what they would say to each other. Only as a sound bite with no context does this sound cold or crass.

George could fall in a skip of sewage and still come out looking cool. That man was mentholated cool.

its kinda sad that soon we will either have Ringo's reaction to Paul's death or the other way around and then there will be only one

William knew he could not afford to do a "It's a drag" 2.0 so this time he behaved. He did not want to have more people realizing that he is not the real Paul McCartney.

Ringo's interview tears me up each time. I'm not a fan, I've only watched it a half a gazillion times.

Paul going out to speak to the press gathered at his home was so great. He knew they wouldn't go away until he gave them what they came for, and he knew that if he didn't say EXACTLY the right thing he'd be vilified relentlessly, like after the shocking death of John Lennon. Paul knew George close to 2 years before he met John. And on one, not even Paul, mentioned that George died at Paul's OTHER home in the States. Paul loaned it to George and Olivia and Dhani as a place for George to be comfortable and at peace and out of the public eye. Ringo's story is great, but the interview was much later, not on the day after George's death.

William knew this time that he could not afford to make a "It's a drag" 2.0. That is why he behaved this time. He could not allow more people waking up to the fact that he is not James Paul McCartney. The fact that George died in one of William's houses was only to prevent George from doing a deathbed confession.

we don't actually know how they reacted when they heard the news for the very first time.
