I SO hope that this version of the song is included in some CD release. I was SO disappointed when it wasn’t released on Anthology 3. It’s probably my favorite alternate take from the movie Let It Be.

It's always to hear where Beatle songs began. Like new songs or performances are for the rest of us, they are rough, unpolished, and unfinished. The Beatles worked enormously hard in the studio to work out their parts and fit them together into a seamless performance.

What I've noticed is that when they first jam on their songs together, it's typically with a 4-piece arrangement. Across the Universe started off with drums and Paul on bass and trying to background harmony. Eventually none of those three pieces (drums, bass or paul's backing) made it into final version and it became orchestral. This version of Two of Us is a lot more of a blues rock song and I kinda prefer it this way. But it probably is better in the folksy acoustic way they finalized it, with ringo's bass kick as the only real source of drumming. Don't Let me Down also was a bit faster, heavier and dancier when they first started playing it.

It’s always a great pleasure to hear variations of an already known song of the Beatles, thank you for posting 🙏🏻 I have only 2 additional comments : 1. this version is by far faster than the one included in Let it be album, 2. it’s very strange but I have found that, after each of the 2 "run away home" break, the tempo changes (I mean 1 two 3 four becomes one 2 three 4) ! I thought it was an error but as it’s the case each time, I imagine it’s deliberate ☺️ If a professional musician could confirm and give us an explanation ? Thanks in advance 😎

I also found this version of the song kinda interesting. There is actually no tempo or time signature change here though. You can count, it stays the same. This is a simple trick with a kick and bass offset. Instead of the usual 4/4 measure, they can be thought of as two triplets and a quarter, i mean 4/4 = 3/8 + 3/8 + 1/4. I hope I explained clearly

It is amazing how amateur-sounding the unpolished versions of The Beatles songs are (even as late as 1969). No wonder Decca rejected their audition.
@timothysullysullivan2571

They were writing and finding the arrangements in the studio; no need or attempt for precision until they have it down and go for the serious takes. On the other hand, the Decca tape is terrible- I wouldn't have signed them based on that. In fact, every single label rejected them. George Martin admitted he signed them off their 'humor, charisma and personalities..." not their music.

@@timothysullysullivan2571 _"They were writing and finding the arrangements in the studio; no need or attempt for precision until they have it down and go for the serious takes."_ I understand that line of reasoning, but I think there's more to the story. Those rehearsals are just *too crude* for a legendary band. I am going to suggest something radical: *those sessions we hear in the Let it Be film and Anthology are the **_real_** Beatles doing the best they can.* What you hear on the released records is the polished result *after* George Martin and other trained musicians/arrangers worked on it.
