The juxtaposition between the macabre lyrics and incongruously buoyant instrumentation blows my very tiny mind. I first heard the entire album - Welcome to the Beautiful South - on the way home to Pietermaritzburg from an Elton John concert in Johannesburg in 1993, and it made everything Elton had done seem rather mediocre. I'll be thinking about that night all day now and I'm already miserably happy.

You should look up TBS' cover of The Smiths' "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" on KZitem, for another great example of TBS' trademark jaunty music under dark lyrics. It's a masterpiece.

This song is all the more proof that nobody gives a shit about song meanings. Just as long as the song is catchy and simplistic enough to boogie down to, that's all people really care about.

Wrong. The message comes through loud and clear. Simply it is a celebration that the Woman in the Wall is finally going to have her voice as the decaying body starts to appear out of the wall. I'd bet most fans of the song know exactly what it is about.

It's such a creepy yet melodic song! I hate that I love it. And I'm trying to figure out the meaning. Sure, the simple version is he kills a woman and stuffs her in his wall but, what does the part *_she'd knitted him a jumper with dominoes on so he wore it every day in every week_* mean? (even odder, they have a great song called Domino Man).

Does it have a deeper meaning? There is the song and cult film "Wonderwall," Bowie's girl with the mousy hair who is "stuck to the silver screen and a woman that he meets by a wall in Heroes.

timtak1 Well, I see no point in arguing religion one way or the other. I essentially have only this to say about religions: Don't let mere *_thoughts of God_* or any religious authorities come between you and God. Such may tend to create the illusion that God can be understood by the mind and thus leads nowhere, because The Timeless Creator self evidently cannot be subjected to creations.

@@Hallands. Hear, hear. I like to think about the lyrics of Oasis, Bowie, and The Beautiful South as well as various religions, but, yes I can see how they might get in the way. I think koan 42 in the Gateless Gate may also be about the same wall woman but there she is described as a mask, which is just another metaphor.
@Hallands.

timtak1 Yes, I get you and I also like to delve deeper into many subjects and have patterns emerge. It's just that I discovered that all activities are facilitated to a surprising degree by not identifying with mind. We have it, but it's not what we essentially are...
