This has been my main comfort channel for several years now, and I didn't really think about why until now. When I watch your videos, I get the sense that you are interested in real life, finding beauty wherever it exists. Not trying to make escapist, fantastical stories (though I love those too), but turning your eyes--and the camera--toward the best of the world. That's the kind of art I want to make, and I am so glad that it already exists.

Different communities pray for blessed tools of their crafts, whether they be farmers, priests, travelers, vendors, etc. and show appreciation for the unified efforts of everyone to keep a community thriving. Pongal, or Sankranti, is a great holiday in South India centered on appreciation and gratitude towards our own selves and far we have come, and to everyone around us who take care of others. We boil milk, having it run over the side of a pot, to signal peace and prosperity for all. A town near me has an annual festival in the Fall called the "Cooter Festival". For those of you who don't know, a 'cooter' is a name some southerners call turtles. Many people that move here or locals that aren't familiar with the term are often very hesitant with bringing their kids to a family-friendly festival.

@@billyford2262 Probably because in modern day American slang, cooter means vagina. It's like if you found out about the "vagina festival" but it turns out vagina is slang for tutles in one very small region of the world, which is the case here. (I've lived in the south my whole life and have never heard cooter be used for anything besides vaginas.) There are age restricted, adults only events thrown all over America where people can wear their fetish gear outside the house, buy porn, and meet other fetish enthusiasts and porn creators, which I'm assuming is what people are thinking of when they hear of cooter fest.

Things I’ve learned about small-town festivals in North Dakota: 1) breakfast is pancakes 2) parades consist of fire trucks, tractors, and politicians 3) there is always someone selling honey 4) Minnesota has a weird thing for potatoes 5) North Dakota only has one dentist On a more serious note, my own family also started a local festival in our community and it’s a lot of hard work to put together every year, but like you said, it’s so wholesome and satisfying to see the whole community come together to celebrate and have fun. The city I grew up in would have a big festival every year. The city's history is closely entwined to WWII so they used to have battle reenactments at the festival, where people and tanks would fire blanks at each other. I always thought it was pretty cool.

My grandpa just passed and it marks the end of that generation in my family. One of my favorite recurring memories is going to the tiny Inkom, ID fourth of July parade that was basically around the corner from his tiny town home on 116 acres. And I'm just so happy to see this. Thank you for warming my heart. ❤

It’s really interesting how these events affect the communities, especially economically. Tourism is a huge way for towns to draw visitors and introduce new money to that community. This video reminded me a lot about that discussion in my travel and tourism class, and I’m literally going to school for Event Management. Even though those events were pretty formulaic, every single one probably benefited from bringing in that extra bit of revenue to the area. Thank you for making a positive video about this stuff, I love your channel btw. All your videos are very entertaining and though out.

I never grew up in a town this small, or in America for that matter, but I still got a nostalgic feeling from this video. It reminded me of my youth, growing up, being naive, making mistakes... but having fun. I get such a brotherly feeling from these festivals, it seems as if everyone lets their hectic lives and cares go for a minute, and just enjoy what matters most: your neighbors, your family and your friends.

i love to see all the people in the comments drawing on their own lives and deeply relating to the video. small town americana (and any other country's equivalent) is something that is near and dear to my old jaded heart. it reminds people that there is still something wholesome and genuine to be found in the world, and it may just be outside your front door. i can't say how much i appreciate you shining a light on this sometimes overlooked side of life.

I love how you added other country's equivalent :) We just went to a festival in a town about half an hour away from us we had never been in before this month. It was tiny, all organised on school grounds next to a field, there was a firetruck you could sit in and take pictures, try to pump water from an old water pump to hit some targets, a bouncy house, a school band I think (we missed that but caught a harmonica performance after that) and it ended with a bonfire and a fireworks show. There was also some quintessential Finnish festival foods, like grilled sausages and “metre liquorice” in different flavors haha This video really reminded me how similar people all over the world are, there’s these small town festivals in every country :) We live in a bigger city and while there are a lot of fun things here, that day in a small town was pretty special!

I grew up moving all over the country, so I got to go to a lot of different parades and festivals and i can definitely say that local festivals/celebrations are a lot cooler than going to a crowded large event or parade like the new year's events or those type of things. it's also nice that you will get to run into people you know at local events too.

I grew up in a tiny Virginia town on the river. When I was little, the town was really coming up - people would buy vacation houses out there, and we’d get a lot of tourism in the summer. We had something called “RivahFest” and I remember one year I guessed the number of candies in this massive tub of saltwater taffy and won the whole thing! I wish I was able to appreciate that upbringing more, but (like many rural US towns) racism was rampant and it wasn’t an idyllic place to grow up if you weren’t white. When the economy tanked in 2008, the area suffered as the tourism dried up and it never really recovered. Racial tension and poverty skyrocketed. My whole family ended up moving away for one reason or another. I’ll probably never go back, but I hope one day I’ll find the right place to plant roots and feel truly accepted into a community.

I'm from a small farming town in South Central Pennsylvania and we have festivals all the time. Mostly harvest festivals (apple fest, corn fest, etc.) where everyone gathers to show off their new recipes and whatnot. There were also ones for livestock. Sometimes ones for farming equipment! I remember at one show they did a tractor square dance where folks drove the tractors in circles and stuff timed to music, it was so funny lol

I live in a small town in Nebraska that has a chicken festival, even though we do not have any chickens in our town or county. Regardless, it goes on for 3 days and there’s always crazy themed stuff to do like the potato one you went to. Including the worlds largest chicken dance and the cluck off. All very silly stuff. But this video makes me appreciate it a little more.
