The Killer Tofu 1995 world tour was their biggest and best. It was also their last major tour except for a few reunions and benefit shows performed over the years. I remember the night I saw them October of 95 in Philadelphia. It was near the end of the tour. Monroe Yoder was losing his voice and it was pouring down rain after the first hour. It was so worth the 4 hour drive though. The extended jam during this song was epic and Chap Lipman did a drum solo during the intermission.

Being a liberal/conservative is a certain way of being sometimes. The culture split. Something silly and pointless seemed to start feeling forced when everything around us starts having an agenda. +Malakye Zepher You're absolutely right and so was the original statement. It makes people submissive and believe everything the powers that be say. Democracy is great for the leaders of the free world because it gives us civilians the false belief that we have, however small it may be, some type of power and thus we don't challenge what they do or say at all and an unknowingly submissive populace is the greatest thing for the few rich and powerful on top of leading a democratic constituency, but too much democracy and the few rich and powerful cease to exist. That's exactly what 9/11 halted in its tracks. A truly powerful and truly free population that had the knowledge and mental resources to intellectually challenge authority in a civilized and productive manner.

I scored tickets from a radio station to see The Beets on this very tour in '95. I was absolutely mesmerized by the quality musicianship, vocal performance, and their great interaction with the crowd. From the opening riff of the explosive opener that was Mo Allowance, to the heavier than usual performance of Shout Your Lungs Out, nothing could prepare me for Killer Tofu as the encore. I even got them to sign my cassette copy of Let It Beet after the show. I went back home that night with my ears ringin, knowing i would never forget the experience that was The Beets. I remember working for the Bloatsburg Police Department in the early 90s when I had to pick up some Beetniks at a truck stop outside of town. They were young kids who missed their bus. Luckily, I’m a big Beets fan myself. I knew them before they got big. They even wrote a song about my socks. I kept saying “where’s my sock?” And Chap Lipman thought that would be a great song. The rest is history.

This was my favorite show as a kid, but I haven't thought about it in a long time and then randomly the chorus "ooo ee ooo killer tofu" popped into my head at work and I am so grateful that it did. I forgot, or possibly never acknowleged the pure, bitchin', rocking awesomeness of this song. The Beets are so effing bitchin'. My mind is blown!

Lip Chapman's addiction to Heroin was channeled into this 1992 classic off the seminal album "Let it Beet". Chapman would check himself into rehab later that year where he befriended Layne Staley, there were talks of a collaboration while both The Beets and Alice in Chains both had some downtime. I woulda loved to see it
