I just skated last weekend at my kiddo’s 13th party for the first time in 43 years. I think I loved it more than I did when I was a kid. The last time I skated I took a pretty bad fall and broke my arm. I’m 50 now and will be investing in wrist guards and some tailbone protection, but I’m hooked and I’m all in. I’m so grateful for you, Dirty. I LOVE watching your videos and I feel your love and passion for skating. You are helping me to build confidence. This is priceless information for me. I’m 41 years old and haven’t really skated much since I was a teenager. I learned very quickly that it’s not like riding a bike. I feel like I have completely started from scratch. I thought I could just jump back in to it with a pricey pair of skates (roller blades) like I use to wear as a kid. I’m now convinced that I need to swallow my pride and buy a pair of skates like the ones featured in this video and work my way back up.

I bought my Fame skates in January of this year. Skated on them 70+ times between January and October. They were definitely an improvement over rentals for a few reasons but mostly that I could adjust them to my liking. I also replaced the bearings and wheels in August with Bones reds bearings and Rollerbones Elites 103A 62MM that gave a much better roll. The only problem I had with the Fames is the eyelets near the top started ripping out. That could be because I was tying them too tight and I had my trucks set too tight. Overall they were good skates for the money. Ive recently bought Riedell 120 as an upgrade and they are very nice skates. Thank you Dirty for this channel I have been watching since the restart of my skating journey in November of 2021 after 33 years. Im 49 now and when I did skate back in the day, I wasnt good lol. Thanks to this video I just received a pair of Sure-Grip Boardwalks today (pushing 50 and back to skating after 36 years out of a rink). My feet are picky and I figured they wanted/deserved the suede as opposed to the Fames, but this video got me in the right ballpark and after skating them for 2.5 hours today, I'm ABSOLUTELY in LOVE!! Also, thanks to so many of your OTHER videos, today's skate was not just fun, but also 'productive' from a 'working on specific things' POV. I skated as a kid, with no formal instruction and have just been 're-figuring things out' on my own up until the last week or two when I found these videos. Today, I was specifically thinking about weight transfer, down with the butt, up with the gut, keeping all my snacks in line, etc. I was also able to get my kids started on some backwards skating. All this for free (or a few ad rolls)?!?!? Amazing. I'mma have to pick up some merch. Thank you so much for all you've done and continue to do.

I totally get why you’ve tried not to sell us on any particular skate before, however, having specific recommendations from you is so helpful! Would you consider doing a video breaking down your recommended skates by price range, like best skate options if you have $100-200, best skate(s) if your budget is $200-300, etc? Maybe subcategories like, best for a wide/narrow foot? I know that there are a lot of variables, and some of it comes down to preference but I would love to see something like that! I also know that’s asking a lot and these videos are work ❤ Thanks for all that you do and for being the human that you are. 💕

Is it possible to carry a plate with outdoor wheels and a plate with indoor wheels and just change out the whole plate assembly to fir the occasion? Thanks Dirty. Would love to skate with you sometime, but I am on the east coast.

Yep I luv my cheap skates bullets. Repadded to hard and put on juicys cost more than the skate. Them cheap vinyls will get you rollin and better to tear up than tear up nicer skates. These bullets are in no way as good as the suregrips I had as a kid.

Oh man had I wish I known about these before I got my Moxi panthers. I thought I did a lot of research and I thought they were the best bet. But these look better! Cheaper and the tongue doesn’t look as uncomfortable as the panthers tongue. I do like my panthers tho and I think they’re adorable. I didn’t get them for that reason but that just happens to be a plus. Someday tho I’d like to fix up and restore my grandmothers old Douglas Snyders and use those.

I love your channel! What’s the weight limit for nylon plates? I have the Bout Betties in “Champagne Dream” and those have aluminum plates. I’m wondering if nylon plates are better for beginners? I like these Sure-Grip skates. Thank you.

How do you like the fame wheels when it comes to indoor wood floors? I’ve read that they are a little sluggish as far as maintaining speed? Would you recommend the Rollerbones team 101a?

I wear Rollerbones Elite and Rollerbones Team. I would only wear the Fame wheel if I were just starting out. If you're looking for performance, you can't beat Rollerbones.

@@Dirtydeborahharry I just bought my 10 year old niece the fame skates and as you know they come with the fame wheel. She’s a pretty good skater, but she’s only been on the rentals so I was just curious if the fame wheel would be suitable for her or if I needed to go ahead and upgrade her wheels? Thank you for the videos. I’ve watched a ton!

I really enjoy your videos and I value your opinion. I tried the Sure grip skate skates. They feel like a pair of cheap shoes on your feet doesn’t seem comfortable to me. I’m a beginner skater. I guess it’s my feet

@@lisahansen6014 I would simply because natural leather breaths and will mold to your foot. Vinyl doesn't.

How does the sizing run on these Sure Grips? Do they run bigger than shoe size? Smaller than shoe size? Or do I just order shoe size? On Amazon it says to order a size smaller than shoe size because they run big. But I wanted to hear from someone who knows these skates. My shoe size is 7 1/2. Please help.

What’s the difference between skates labeled as outdoor or indoor?…. Is it really just the type of wheels that are on them? Thx!

@@lisahansen6014 You would only buy a set of wheels for each surface you plan to use (indoor, outdoor, skate park). You only need one pair of boots. I'm also new to this, but I think it's fairly easy to do, if you use a skate tool and buy separate bearings to leave on each set of wheels.
