I’ve been pushing and pulling a sled multiple times a week for 2 months now. Just walking around I can feel an enormous difference in the stability of my knees and legs. I swear if you just stick to this for a while you’ll be blown away with how amazing your legs feel. The best part is how little recovery it takes…you hardly feel sore after so you can do it every day. I prefer trex straps for pulling with my shoulder blades squeezed together for added back muscle benefit. I feel like I’ve found an exercise I’m going to be doing for the rest of my life.

I've been doing KNEESOVERTOES training for about 30 weeks now and always walk backwards on the treadmill because pushing against the resistance is helpful but only recently have I found a gym with a sled and HOLY CRAP what a difference it makes when you can pull one of those backwards. It works because its working the back and hip muscles... the legs get worked going forward but do alot less going backwards, the knee depends on the ankle and hips being strong for it to be pain free so the knee actually has very little to do when going in reverse and the relief is actually from strengthening of the hip and back muscles which gives greater support to the knee because knee problems actually come from bad posture which forces the knee past the toes because the hip tilts too far forward and weight is loaded onto the knee far too far forward instead of sitting directly on top of it as well as the hips being tilted too far forward. A possible static exercises would be a sort of upright plank... while attached to the sled, go on your heels as far as you can and straighten your back while leaning back about ten degrees, then while your whole body is braced and completely stright rock forward on your heels a tiny fraction and hold it there... this should involve the legs a bit more as everything would be contracting... the legs hips, glutes and back at the same time which would integrate the whole kinetic chain. This would probably be better as an augment to speed up the progress when pulling the sled backwards

Just make sure you simplify/deload each movement until you can do it without pain, then progress to the next highest load or angle.

Though I agree with his point on effectiveness of sledding. I'm skeptical about using it as a training tool for cardio. Honestly, it can be a useful supplement and help build certain muscles which can certainly help with fatigue. I can also see how it could be useful for HIIT. However, something I've noticed recently is that the only real way to build sports specific cardio is by performing or playing that sport alongside road/track work. So many guys I've seen are trying to promote these shortcuts which will never be as effective. Yes, training smarter is a thing, but the work will always be hard if the goal you set is high.

It's a knee extension. The same can be achieved doing terminal knee extensions with a band as the resistance instead of the sled resistance. High reps (TUT) with low load. Nothing magical about it if you know about physical therapy.
@mariorobe4805
2 жыл бұрын
Doing sled pulls and pushes is much more measurable and easier to add consistent load to the exercise, with a resistance band the exercise becomes inconsistent seeing as how the smallest movement forward or backward will increase or decrease the intensity of the exercise. Not to mention that you get no foot engagement doing it with a resistance band and after a while you can't progress and add weight to the exercise.

Thank you for having Ben on today #1 he’s AMAZING and #2 because he said thank you to you for your role in advancing humanity. Just by being yourself and bringing amazing people like Ben on your show you’re showing the world that it’s not that hard to be kind and work for the betterment of everyone. Thank you both 🙏🤩😘

I have an upcoming surgery to repair a torn meniscus. I might have to try some sled work, possibly even beforehand.

Horizontal planar training is great. My knees feel more "supported" after 1 session. Plus it reminds me of the football days 😄. Did you know that Mike Alstot used to pull a sled up a hill on a regular basis?

I will add this in. BareFoot running is also great for knees and feet

Minimalism is what it is called in running. Basically modern shoes have an over abundance of support that cause many people to end up with unnatural running form where they heel strike and smash their heels into the ground when they run. Main cause of shin splints and knee issues from running. Much better to land on the mid foot. That can be corrected without running barefoot, but the majority of people won’t be able to consciously stop heel striking and adjust themselves.

Ben has brought a great emphasis on improving knee health, which is fantastic and needed. Though credit is due to Joe DeFranco for making the sled popular among strength coaches, including Ben. It would be nice to see Joe DeFranco on the show, The Muscle Doc or even the Mind Pump trio.
