This was an excellent review! Just purchased the polar pacer! The feature where it lets you know how to round out your fitness and the guided workouts…top features for me! EDIT: I love this watch! It gives me everything I need and makes me feel a lot more confident in my training program.

Wait a bit. Polar will drop something new later in the year and hopefully it will improve on the Grit X Pro. Right now I’d recommend the Pacer or Pacer Pro over anything else in Pilar’s lineup. Although the Pacer watches aren’t as premium as the Grit X Pro, they just seem to be more accurate.

Have been watching comparisons and reviews on both watches for a while and still cant decide. I normally run (50% trail- 50% road) but not sure if the Pace 2 not having a trail running profile will affect my results/stats. Is having the barometric altimeter w/o trail running profile (Pace 2) better than not having barometric altimeter w/ trail running profile (Pacer)? A bit of a tongue twister there lol. Hope u understood my dilemma...
@its_Matt_B_
Жыл бұрын
Yes, I definitely see the dilemma! The Barometric altimeter is so good to have in a watch of this price, but when I wore the Pace 2 on a steep mountain trail it gave me a super low running economy! The thing to remember is the stats don’t really matter! If you’re putting in the work both watches will record your effort. Also, when your Pacer uploads a run it gets elevation data from topographic maps, so the elevation is correct after the fact. You just don’t get the elevation gain in real time.

I'm surprised the Polar Pacer doesn't give life advice as well. Most of this functionality, like training management, I expect from web-based apps, not from a watch with a limited UI. I want my watch simple to use, reliable, robust, good battery life, and excellent data collection. It seems the Coros with its barometric altimeter (surprised that works proximate to body heat) has the advantage there, slightly. The the dial as opposed to remembering button sequences for scrolling thru menus seems a win. The Coros power connection seems prone to contamination and damage, however.
@its_Matt_B_

I really like the rotating dial on COROS watches. I’m always surprised when people don’t like it; it just makes navigation so much easier! As far as COROS’ power measurement, perhaps their new POD 2 will sharpen the data. I always take wrist based data with a pinch of salt but I rely on my Stryd footpod for accurate power readings.

the single most important aspect for me about polar watches is that they have that "energy used" metric. zone 2 trainings get you up to %90 percent of burning fat. you mentioned it as a guide for eating but it is actually much more important than that... however the battery life is also crucial for me so 5 days is lame lame. ty for the video dawg.
@its_Matt_B_

You're right about the energy used being a good feature! I look at it a lot more when it's in my run stats at the end of a run! Yeah, 5 days battery isn't ideal, but try wearing an Apple Watch for a few weeks and 5 days seems like a dream!🤣

I haven’t used the GT Runner, but it looks to be a solid watch with loads of features. I would recommend getting the GT Runner if you don’t live in the U.S. and have an iPhone, or don’t need your data to sync to Strava. There may be some work arounds to getting the data to Strava in the US on IOS, but it doesn’t seem intuitive. The Pace 2 doesn’t have as many smart features as the GT Runmer, but it’s an excellent running/sports watch!

I don’t have access to a treadmill to test it, however it’s important to remember that treadmills are notorious for providing inaccurate distances. Your best bet for any treadmill is to wear a footpod synced with your watch. I use the Stryd footpod and it is as accurate as GPS.

I have the Pace 2 and have used it for almost 2 years. Never let me down and we’ll satisfied. That being said, I’ve been getting the itch to try something else. I really like how the Pacer looks more like a running watch. That large case on the wrist would complete the “runner look” more than how the Coros appears like any other “smart watch” out there. My main apprehension is going from the Coros system that I’m used to and learning another. Thank goodness for Strava being the great equalizer and making that move a bit more attractive,
@its_Matt_B_

I’ve always found Polars swim metrics/lap count off. Low end/high end watches, it doesn’t matter. Polar just can’t seem to get it right. I have the Pace 2 and it’s dead on in the pool. Something I wish more reviewers would talk about is the swim accuracy when reviewing watches.

Dear Matt, appreciate all your videos. You know Pace 2 so well, can you help me. I know how to connect my Polar H10 to my Coros Pace 2 in settings, and it searches and connects fine. But how do I know for certain that the HR measurement thereafter is actually from the strap during use/during my run? Is there a watch face symbol or way to check? I have a suspicion that the watch itself is still measuring HR at the wrist (especially since my post-run HR data in Coros Training Hub seems identical as without the strap), but it may well just be my distrusting mind formed from adults coming in and out of my life as a child. lol yea, I’m the guy that peeks under the lid to make sure everything went down completely 🚽 lololol. Please help me sleep at night! Thank you. Burps

This is actually an excellent question, but the answer will have to wait a day for me to be sure. If you want to check before I confirm the answer, go to your “Run” workout where you wait for the GPS to connect before starting the workout. On the bottom of that screen is an icon, or possibly several icons depending on what is connected to the watch. One of those icons will be brighter when the H10 is connected. I need to connect the H10 to my Pace 2 to confirm, but I’m at work and don’t have either with me.

@@its_Matt_B_ Thank you. I’ll study that…it doesn’t seem to show brighter for me. Hmmm. Maybe I should run and see if it cuts in and out, the symbol. Maybe a KZitem “shorts” video to show what you’re seeing (like KZitemr Kyle Krantz does, but it’s whatever is easiest for you). @@Burps___ Here's how to test your Polar H10 is connected and reading your HR. To be sure the H10 is connect to your Pace 2 and click: System-Accessories-Added list. Do you see your H10 listed? Good! Put on your H10 but do not put the watch on your wrist. Go to "Run" and press enter. On the bottom of the screen you'll see a little heart icon, along with a battery icon, GPS signal icon and the time (maybe a few other icons, but maybe not). Give the watch a few seconds to connect to the HR, but you should see your HR next to the heart icon, even though the watch is not on your wrist. This is how you know the Pace 2 is getting your heart rate from the H10 and not from the optical sensor.

I like the size of the pace 2 a lot more, but I like the Pacer's data/info a lot more with polar flow and all its information. Buuuuut if you already have a Stryd, it connects to the Polar Pacer and gives power data. Ofc not natively, but it does support the metric. Also, as a Pacer owner, although I miss some of the smarts, it really is a motivating fitness/running device. I've mentally committed more to doing what FitSpark tells me recently and it helps me also do strength and mobility workouts so I won't break down from the running. The running test was quite a killer the first time 😅
