I absolutely agree with Carey Mulligan. Saoirse's performance was breathtaking in Atonement. She should have won the oscar.

I agree with Firth. Kevin Bacon's performance in The Woodsman was incredible. The delicacy with which he handled that character was awe-inspiring. He really got me to feel bad for him, not as a criminal, but as a person trying to be good when nobody believes he can be. The conversation he has with the little girl in the park near the end is truly heart-breaking. I would also put up Ralph Fiennes in The Constant Gardener. Very, very subtle work, as always. The scene where the character learns his wife has died is one of the best pieces of acting I've ever seen. The guy is a master.

Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood," Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight," Javier Bardem in "No Country for Old Men," Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Capote," Forrest Whitaker in "The Last King of Scotland," Christoph Waltz in "Inglorious Basterds," all won the 5 big awards (Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and Critics' Choice Award) for those performances. I don't understand why actors don't pick performances that might actually have been the best. Plus, Daniel Day-Lewis probably would have done the same if he had been nominated for Best Supporting Actor instead Leading actor in "Gangs of New York." I just don't understand why none of them picked any of the truly great performances. Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard weren't bad choices, but most of them were.

Totally agree with Clooney at the end: Cotillard. I think it has to be the ONE single time I've seen a young actor play an old person convincingly. Clooney is right, she was a young person playing an old person wanting to be as young as possible. Acting like that takes enormous talent. As for male, it's really hard to go past Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood. Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain is extremely close, and The Dark Knight is close to that.

I'm actually glad they mentioned Eddie Murphy, everyone seems to think Comedy acting is easy but it's really not and to play multiple characters all in one scene and being able to interact with one another (which may I remind you is all one person) requires some serious skill. Everyone thinks because you performed this really sad or serious scene it makes you a good actor but to be able to touch an audiences sense of humour is a whole knew level, to actually make everyone in a room laugh keeping that energy alive while switching characters costumes during the filming process is difficult and he did that successfully props to him bro.....

+Emmett Del Eddie Murphy played multiple characters in one scene all together interacting with one another, the level of skill and discipline required to do such a thing is higher than you're spiritual belief. Now go sit down and think about that because you clearly have no knowledge of screen acting.

+Alexander Wolf If you don't study acting then don't comment. That performance was NOTHING compared to what some have achieved. There was NO emotional depth it was all superficial. Dozens of actors preform to -nothing-. Who do you think they're talking to in a close up? Now that's not to say his performance wasn't impressive by any standards. But to claim it as THE TOP PERFORMANCE of the decade is a rash rash rash decision. Now go sit down and think about that because you clearly have no knowledge 'of' screen acting.

I agree with Mr. Clooney on the Piaf comment, except that Piaf was 47 when she died and what made her look old was her deteriorating health and not her age. This made Marion Cotillard's portrayal of the great artist that much more masterful. #Piaf #LaVieEnRose #MarionCotillard #GeorgeClooney
