Really enjoying this series! Great choice of publisher to feature. I have Codenames, Codenames: Duet, Under Falling Skies, and Lost Ruins of Arnak. I like all of them but love Arnak. Your video is making me think about breaking it out for a couple plays this weekend. The solo mode is great! I've been keeping an eye on more information regarding SETI. I do remember you mentioning it from UK Games Expo. Not as many games as last year have appealed to me but SETI definitely has me intrigued. I think it'll depend on how good the solo mode is whether I add this to my collection or not.

Pulsar 2489 is brilliant. I've never played a dice placement eurogame where the dice selection system is that simple but at the same time the decision of which dice to choose has such a meaningful impact. The balance between taking what you want and not losing position on those two tracks is super smart. The sandbox feel of the game where you have a lot of paths to victory is so fun, the point salad feels rewarding, the playtime is spot on, and it's well priced.

Lost Ruins of Arnak is probably my favorite board game of all time as of recent. I personally think the first expansion makes it the 10/10 that it is. I personally love the campaign as I've played it 4 times, each time co-op and I still have seen and done different things each time. I haven't really played anything else by them other than Codenames at parties and yeah it's fun, but I got bored quick. I should really get Under Falling Skies, I've been getting more into solo games again lately as my main board game friend has moved across the country.

Space Alert is my #1 from CGE and my #1 co-op game full stop. But I realize the stress and learning curve puts a lot of people off into diving into it. Once you have it down, the amount of decision making, required teamwork, and communication crammed into just 10 minutes makes it not only easy to fit 1-3 games into a session and still have time for a big game, it’s the one co-op game that I believe can’t be fully mastered. There is just too much imperfect information that must be communicated amongst each other and the difficulty options can ramp things up to near impossible. Which is fine because some of my best sessions were of failure because of the hilarious dominos effects that can happen when someone makes a mistake due to a misunderstanding.

Galaxy Trucker is my favorite CGE game. In fact for many years it was my #1 game. I got memories of this game I remember vividly to this day. Not many games do that. I know this is a crazy suggestion, but based on your comments. You may want to try the app for it. It's not real time (or it's an option) to use action points. Take your time and do your best. And it's really great app, top tier for board games. Dungeon Petz expansion is crazy good. All the petz get unique powers (good and bad). There is a bunch of new worker spots. It does turn it into a heavier game. Which some people don't like about it. It's not just a more stuff for what was already there expansion. Sanctum is CGEs most underrated game. Proved by no mention here. I don't get the love of Lost Ruins of Arnak. It's resource conversion puke. A dime a dozen. It's theme is barely there. But that's the great thing about this hobby, games for everyone.

Agreed on Codenames. It’s based on a cool idea, but too much waiting. Codenames Duet is much better. So Clover completely surpasses it for me, because everyone is thinking of clues at the same time, and then when you’re trying to work out the answers, everyone is involved except the one person who set the clues. My favourite is probably Arnak. Really good game, though I need to not play it too often. Second is probably First Rat. Looks like Candyland, but plays like a point salad euro, but much much lighter and breezier than other point salad euros. I enjoyed Galaxy Trucker, but one play was enough. Under Falling Skies can be great, but isn’t as fun when it gets too punishing. Maybe I should drop the difficulty level I play at.

Dungeon Lords is one if my favorite games, easily in my top 5, and Ive played 100s of times. You can add me to a list of those who still play itm it is far from "done." Replayability is very high. The worker placement via cards aspect is unique and absolutely wonderful. And planning out your evilometer to assure that you get the right adventurers to your dungeon is next level play. To win Dungeon Lords you must focus on what the other players need and are able to do at the table. Add the expansion and it becomes even better (although those I play with debate this fact) but is not at all necessary. Now that being said it is PURELY a 4 player game. 3 player and 2 player takes away a lot of what im talking about. Other than that I have no problem with your other opinions. I like Galaxy Trucker because its fun, but i can fully understand not liking that one if you are one who takes games too seriously. But Dungeons Lords is WAY too good to be on the bottom 3.

One thing I agree with is that it is possible to end up in what we call a "death spiral" where things go poorly and you can't recover. Particularly when first playing the game. But that is part of the fun. At that point the goal is simply to end with a positive score and learn how NOT to let that happen. I can say it doesn't happen to us much, if at all, anymore and the scores tend to be tight. But I have seen players get discouraged when this happens to then. Which is why when teaching new players we tell them that it likely will happen and just take it as a learning experience. Indeed the rules even say something like you can treat a positive score as a personal victory. 😉 One guy, who is now arguably the best at DL in our group, literally had his entire dungeon destroyed in his first game. Much laughter ensued and we refer to that game often.

Because it simulates real life pretty well. Space is a pretty hostile environment and you need to make quick decisions based on imperfect information. Majority of gamers I know don't like real-time games but I love it. Space Alert, GT, Fuse are brilliant games that make you process information and make decision faster. You can also look at two decks and prepare your ship better so it's not fully random but there is a hefty tradeoff of getting decent components vs figuring what calamities wait for you.

@@th3cha1rmak3r I don't think Galaxy Trucker and simulation are words that belong in the same sentence :P Also, in the two times I've played GT and a few live plays that I've seen, no one ever looked at the decks and the people who like it seem to point at the random destroying of your ship being the whole point, which I don't quite get when it's a game that's in the top 300 on BGG, any other game that random that lasts 60-90 minutes would be slaughtered, but this one seems to get a free pass. I suspect there would be a strong overlap in the subset of people who like Galaxy Trucker and those who like Quacks of Quedlinburg. One is real-time tile placement while the other is deck/bag building, but both involve building the best thing you can, mitigating as much risk as possible to give your ship/pot the best opportunity to survive the round, but ultimately some random events will occur and it’s up to Lady Luck as to whether or not you (and your opponents) are successful in getting through the round intact. In both cases, the winner will usually be the person who planned best /mitigated risk most efficiently. And both are addictive “let’s play again” experiences for those who like it.
