Gen 8's move animations were so weirdly inconsistent. Double Kick: The user's model hops up slightly and a foot appears on the foe Tail Whip: The user's model turns around and waggles a bit No Reteat: The user suddenly appears on a mountain's edge flanked with torches while a typhoon rages behind them and shouts to the wargods for victory!
@MacZephyrZ
2 жыл бұрын
That's a logistics issues, really. If you want to give a custom animation to a single move used by a only a single pokemon, you can afford to put extra effort into the animation. But to make a custom tail-wagging animation for ever single pokemon that learns tail whip would be a lot of work that's probably spent better on something else, so it makes sense that they'd use shortcuts there. Especially when the game has hundreds of pokemon and moves. (Compare to Legends Arceus, which heavily cut the number of moves and has awesome animations). Still doesn't justify all of Sword and Shield's issues, don't get me wrong, but a lot of critism of their animations didn't take development logistics into account.

Yeah, Legends Arceus pretty much gave some great signature moves in general. There’s the very broken ones like Victory Dance and Lunar Blessing, like you mentioned, but then you have moves like Hisuian Sliggoo and Goodra’s Shelter, which raises both defensive stats in addition to raising evasion. This not only makes your opponent’s moves more likely to miss, but the ones that do connect deal less damage. Plus you have moves like Infernal Parade (Hisuian Typhlosion), Barb Barrage (Hisuian Qwilfish and Overqwil), and Bitter Malice (Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark) that basically act as slightly weaker versions of moves such as Hex and Venoshock that deal double the damage if the target has a status condition, but compensate for that by having a built-in 30% chance of inflicting a status condition (Burn for Infernal Parade, Poison for Barb Barrage, and Frostbite for Bitter Malice).

And theoretically your ally could have a crazy high basepower normal type move (maybe return or superpower) and have crazy good stats (like slaking or ursaring) and you would prefer the type be electric to hit either a ghost or be super effective for either 2x or 4x damage. (Raindance + thunder is probably better and way less situational) It could probably be better if it changed the move types for 5turns or used either sleep or freeze's rules. This way you could force someone to be exclusively electric and then swap into a ground type or volt absorb.

Couple things: Hitmonlee has the OG Rolling Kick, not Hitmontop. Still kind of bad, but I believe it has a good flinch chance which was nice. Hariyama's Smellingsalt wasn't meant for damage, as shown by lack of STAB and low base power. Instead it was meant to remove Paralysis from something that either benefited from it (Guts, later Quick Feet) or that you wanted another status on (Sleep on a legendary, poison on ally Zangoose). It's a circumstantial move yes, but it gave the sandbag a niche that was only partially replaced by Heal Bell or Aromatherapy. I think Crush Grip exists just to make Regigigas not 100% useless at the start, but something to make him burn a turn counter would have been 100x better. Even a Belly Drum-like move that burns health to get him going right here and now with a stat boost would make the lug viable. You're telling me Hetterene has Psychic type Soak? I don't think you understand just what shenanigans that move can cause. Soak was only bad because it was exclusive to bad water types for years. As an example, using it on Shedinja reduces him to three weaknesses, one of which is a garbage type, another is hard countered by Fairy, and the third can be managed by Dark or Ghost mons. It's mostly a doubles move, but it can also help you counter a mon that your team would otherwise struggle against by preparing weaknesses in advance.

Here are some of the best Signature moves of the ones you didn't mention: -Thousand arrows Arguably the strongest attacking move in the game. For only 10 less bp than Earthquake you get a move that removes the only thing that keeps ground types offensively in check which is their flying immunity. -Spectral theif It's a strong physical ghost move that takes 1 turn and is 100% accurate which would already make it a really good move. But then you also get the massive benefit of stealing all of your opponents stat boosts which makes the move really broken. -Steam eruption What if we took hydro pump, made it 15% more accurate, and gave it a 30% burn chance just like scald which is one of the most broken moves of all time? -Dragon ascent Close combat is a really good move. This is flying type close combat. This is a really good move. -Astral barrage/Glacial Lance Both are 100% accurate 120/130 base power spread moves that are both great offensive types. These moves literally have almost no drawbacks for how powerful they are. -Wicked blow A physical 80 base power move that always crits, and it's dark type which is one of the best offensive types. The move is broken.

The reason why Kinesis was never given to another Pokémon again was probably because it was so exceptionally garbage that Game Freak could not see any way to make it any better, so they just wadded it up and threw it in the wastepaper basket.

14:11 You can actually use Helioisk's Electrify to change an opponent's attack to be Electric, so if you are paired with a Pokemon that is resistant/immune to Electric but weak to the other Pokemon's moves, you can use Electrify on the dangerous Pokemon to stop it from decimating Helioisk's teammate Pair this with a Pokemon with Lightning Rod, and you can essentially shut down any and all attackers not aiming for Helioisk (and even if they aim for it, there's likely a way to protect Helioisk as well)

Hitmontop doesn't learn brick break in GSC because Brick Break was introduced in Gen 3. Also It gets High Jump Kick as an Egg move.

Is "First Impression" limited to Golisopod? 'Cuz I think it does good physical damage and when used it will always go first! And pair it with Golisopod's "Emergency Exit" ability or the move "U-Turn", It can create a decent damage chain! I think it's one of the best bug-type moves along side "X-scissor", Megahorn" and "Bug Buzz" in my opinion!

Someone could use heliolosk electric type changing move on a normally type Pokémon who has stab. A special attacker who can learn hyper beam turns into super effective damage. Very good niche

13:30 I’ve found that the water type Techno Blast is pretty good, since it’s Genesect’s only move that’s super effective against fire, it’s only weakness. 120 base power is nothing to scoff at for a coverage move

They really need to bring back Dark Void so that it would normally have 50% accuracy. But if used by a Pokemon with “Bad Dreams” as its ability, the accuracy is buffed back up to 100%. Or just something to make it that Darkrai can use it again. Maybe make it that Sketch will fail if someone tries using it on Dark Void?

You made a mistake on Photon Geyser. All forms of Necrozma can have it, not just the base form. Also kind of wished you gave a shout out to Incineroar's (former) signature move Darkest Lariat. Base 85 power, 100 percent accurate, and ignores target's stat changes when dealing damage. It makes some of the totem battles in the Alola games much easier.

In gen 8 genesect actually occasionally used techno blast with douse drive to let it get past heatran. Heatran was one of the few Pokémon able to handle it, but with water techno blast it was unable to stop the genesect train. Genesect was banned rather quickly. I wouldn’t say it’s an amazing move but I definitely wouldn’t call it bad.
