I knew it was missing something it didn't look complete but yeah I would definitely put them back on and it will look awesome other than that it's a beautiful car. When I was a kid my dad had a 77 Ford LTD II Landau Brogham. I loved that car. I've always loved the LTDs and the grand Marquis from the 70s beautiful cars

Good video! I owned a ‘74 LTD that ran forever. Your windshield wiper knob has three speeds in one direction and if you turn it the opposite direction from the off position it is intermittent and you can dial slow to fast speed. Also, you should check your spare tire just to see if it’s original. Many Ford products through those years originally came with Firestone 500 tires. They were extremely dangerous and all recalled but many spares were overlooked. If you do have that tire, you can get a brand new one still to this day from a Firestone dealer.

Great video. That’s a very well preserved ‘77 Landau, inside and out. Low miles too. I did want to point out that the rear egg crate insert along the trunk line was included as part of the LTD Landau package for the ‘75-78 generation. The plastic insert with the LTD script in the center was standard on the standard LTD and LTD Brougham package. If you research the original LTD brochures for those production years you will notice this. I’m not trying to nit pick but just thought you might want to know as you seem like a very detailed young man. I distinctly recall when I was 15 in 1977, being with my father on the 4th of July and him trading in our 1974 Chevrolet Cheyenne K5 Blazer on a brand new LTD Landau 2 door, right off the showroom floor. It was silver with a red velour type interior and it had the massive 460 4 bbl. I learned to drive on that car and loved it. My father had a habit of trading his cars about every 2-3 years and this was one of my all time favorite cars that he owned. Great video and thanks for sharing!

Great ride, not sure it is the "BEST" car to come out of the 70's but it did survive the rust the body side moldings probably weighed more than the Chevy Caprice. Another thing that was typical 70's was the need for a finger nail manicure. You needed sharp nails to open the ashtrays.😊

Very nice car. My 1977 Mercury Cougar XR-7 was that same color. Also had the 400 V-8. Side note. I notice the lack off wide bodyside moldings on the rear fender wells. I realized that your car has fender skirts, and that's where they are. The egg crate design on the trunk is part of the Landau package. Other lessor LTDs have a grained plastic insert that is the same color as the vinyl top and says LTD in the center. I remember looking at these when shopping for a new car in 1977. Ended up with a Cougar, but cross shopped at Ford looking at Thunderbirds as well. The Ford Dealer had a brand new LTD Landau 2 door that really caught my attention. It had the upgraded leather interior, which had one of the best looks seats in the business. This upgrade got you special luxury door panel trim, plush carpet like they used in Lincoln brand cars. Even the wood grain in the dash was fancier than standard LTD Landau. The leather option was only offered on Landau models. Mercury offered the same seats in the Mercury Grand Marquis in 1977. My aunt and uncle had one that was completely loaded, including sunroof.

I got my first ever ticket in my mom's '77 Landau 2-door at 16, back in 1982, for going 37 in a 25 zone through our neighborhood. Drove that car to school a lot and loved it. It was so comfy. Even with it having a 460-4V, it wasn't what I would call quick by any means. Definitely smack dab in the middle of the malaise era, but had plenty of torque and lots of comfort. It's nice to see a younger person appreciate a 1970's full-size car. And not related to Adam Wade? Keep working on this nice car. You can live with the fuel mileage on the 2-bbl. 400 c.i., which is a very durable engine. I have a 260,000 - mile 400M 2-bbl on a 1979 Lincoln, and it does not use a drop of oil, and makes good oil pressure still. (But no power.) Yours will be a more reliable car than anything that any of your friends will have. So you will have lower running costs than your buddies. Try to keep away from ethanol in the fuel, and you will have this nice car for a long time. -RDM

Those FOMOCO cars of the late Sixties through mid Seventies really were some of the best built American cars of all time... Not the best looking, but the build quality, ride and the level of craftsmanship was astounding. The only thing that Ford really screwed the pooch with, was using that same boring steering wheel in EVERYTHING from the cheapest Transportation Special, to the pickup trucks and even in the Continental Mark series IV and V.

The era of a la carte options. It's nearly a completely loaded car..then AM radio. I had an '84 Cougar that was strangely optioned. It had power windows & mirrors, premium radio, sunroof (pop up removable type-not electric), automatic-delay headlamps. But, no power locks or seat. Option groupings later did away with some of these strangely equipped cars.
@rickloera9468
Жыл бұрын
Yes, I've seen those. My current 85 Thunderbird Elan has every option, with the exception of a power seat. Strange, because as the top model, you would expect that. Found two other anomalies. First was an 84 Thunderbird base model with 302 V-8, upgraded turbo coupes seats in leather, and that's it. No A/C, no power windows locks, cruise, tilt, nothing. The other one was an 83 base model. V-6 with the rare automatic overdrive. Crank windows, no power seat or locks. It did have cruise control, a tilt wheel, and an AM/FM stereo. Very strange options
@MrOktsx
Жыл бұрын
@Rick Loera Wow. Those are indeed oddly equipped! I honestly didn't mind the way my Cougar was equipped. No power locks was fine for a coupe but you'd have thought it would have power locks if it had auto/delay headlamps. It was about 7 years old when I bought it and was my first car.

Your LTD Landau is a beautiful car! I love that color scheme, inside and out! Plus, your car has most of the significant options which marked a nicely-equipped passenger car in those days...specifically the power windows, locks, driver's side seat, and air conditioning and speed control. Some would add an AM/FM stereo or tape deck, but those factory Ford options were also provided as dealer accessories should the buyer want to retrofit them to an existing car. I've seen some commentary regarding the "Brougham" interior installed in your car. Suffice it to say, your interior is absolutely correct for a '77 or '78 LTD Landau. Here is an explanation: for '75 and '76, Ford provided LTD, LTD Brougham, and LTD Landau trim levels in the 2 and 4 door "pillared hardtop" (i.e. sedan) models. For '77 (and '78) the Brougham trim was dropped, and the Landau was de-contented to move closer to the Brougham's lower price point in the line-up. Although the '77 Landau outwardly retained the '75's and '76's distinctive concealed headlamps, wide vinyl bodyside moldings, and rear trim panel, its interior adopted the elements of the previous Brougham's fittings - particularly the door trim panels. More significantly, items previously provided as standard on the Landaus like front cornering lamps and the convenience group (which included interval windshield wipers and the right hand side remote control mirror you noted as missing on your car, along with a power trunk lid release) were made optional for '77. Your LTD Landau evidences these changes and previously standard equipment deletions for the '77 model year. Interestingly, while the LTD Landau trim presented by your featured car was promoted as the top-of-the-line LTD by Ford, there was an available trim package for that model which arguably vaulted its luxury significantly further still. That was the "Landau Luxury Group", and it added numerous interior fittings resembling or even outright lifted from contemporary Mercury Marquis Brougham and Grand Marquis models. As such, Landaus with this Luxury Group option included a distinctive burled wood grain treatment on the instrument and door panels, as well as heavier weight carpeting, standard digital clock, more substantial sound insulation, and the choice of "Kasmin" knit cloth or "Super-Soft" Vinyl upholstery - the latter of which was textured differently from the vinyl fitted to your "standard" Landau. Moreover, purchasers of this Luxury Group could even specify full leather seating surfaces at extra cost - essentially identical to those included on the Grand Marquis. The Landau Luxury group was actually optional on all '75-'78 LTD Landaus. But surprisingly, even '77 and '78 LTD Landaus optioned with this package did not escape de-contenting of standard equipment...cornering lamps, the convenience group, and a few other items were optional on these later years, rather than standard as previously. As someone whose parents purchased a new LTD Landau in 1975, I hope you enjoy and take care of your lovely car! Examples that nice are getting harder to find.

I guess this is your car, I may be interested in those rear bumper guards. You'll have to look at my videos I'm doing a lot of custom work with my 76 two-door LTD. I'm going to put a set of Mark 5 two-door leather seats front and back. Kind of spending cuz I have to buy a new power seat tracks. But I added the four speaker system took the dash out taking this car apart and learning how it's built. You might want to look at my bumper collapse video the car looks much better with the bumpers tucked. The white Switchback bulbs in the front removing those little inboard reflectors just a whole lot of little remodeling changes. Cuz after all the things really old. I added the passenger side mirror and I went with Lincoln Continental mirrors. On that white top get it really clean sand it really good with some sandpaper and then put white Flex Seal on it. It will keep it waterproof so the water never gets underneath the vinyl and rust out the metal underneath. And it needs a set of hella h 1 and h4 headlights. They're much brighter and they have a Glass lens and metal bucket and you can change the bulbs when they burn out. And you can change the wattages. On the tail lights I change the bulb sockets out they dry rotten crumble, I'll have to do a video on the tail light changes the rear reflector panels going to have an LED strip underneath it. One strip for running lights and the other strip for brake lights it's a little involved. And I did some 1980 to 84 LTD color match tub caps on my car they look a little better the same basic design but much improved hinge Arrangement where they don't fly off.
