I had a guy showed me a "sporterized" 1903 Springfield Rifle he bought at a Pawn Shop in Georgia for $50 back in the 70's. Until I looked closely at it and did a little research (I've got a pretty fair library on military guns). It was WWII/Korean War Era Sniper Rifle with Armor's Markings, minus the Original Scope. When he went back to the Pawn Shop, they had the matching 8x Unertl Scope (serialized) for $10. He bought it and had a retired Marine Armorer who ran a local gunship shop remount it and sight it in. The Marine commented that he hadn't seen one of these since early Vietnam when he found several of these Sniper Rifles in storage at a Stateside Marine Base. Not bad for a $60 total investment.

@@WesAKAthemilkman as for the single action revolver I spoke about with NO name, date , numbers , or anything to go by , even though a 357 mag will fit doesn’t mean it’s the original chambering . some who now nothing about chamber pressure will ignore common sense to if it works leave it alone. if you want magnum performance buy a magnum pistol.many weapons are destroyed each year and many taken to the hospital every year because they were a armchair expert, bragging what could do, but proved they were really stupid. and what I thought might be a crack in the frame was not. I myself would shoot mostly standerd target loads or regular defense ammunition. and plug p ammunition for defense and hunting ing. but absolutely no 357 magnum in it . it’s a good gun in 38 special and I would have many memories of getting together with family and friends shooting. instead of going to the hospital getting put back together. nana and papa

My mother had a similar one to that in .22 for little purse gun. No manufacture markings with real pearl handgrips. She bought it in the late 50's from a woman who said she bought it in Italy. My mother called it her AMG for atsa muh gun. I used to shoot it when I was a kid and I liked how the handgrips felt. Smooth but not slippery even if I had sweaty hands. To bad it turned up missing after she died. I would have liked have to kept it but I figured her sketchy sister snaked it.

Twenty or so years ago a friend of mine purchased a very, very similar revolver, also at a pawn shop but for $75.00 and with "black pearl" grips. It quickly became his favorite plinking/glovebox/console/trail/camping handgun as he discovered that with 158grn lead semi-wadcutters (including hollow points) it shot really close to point of aim out to about 50 yards. Like you he declined to risk his hand(s) and/or eyesight by shooting .357 Magnum rounds in it but has been very happy with what I suppose could be called warmish +P rounds.

I have a pistol that looks very similar. Mine is blued and has plastic grips but I found mine in Southern California when I was 10. Found it in tall grass on the side of a neighborhood park on a Sunday morning. The hammer was cocked and it was fully loaded. The hammer was bent (fortunately), almost like someone had thrown it from a car. We turned it into the police and they repaired the hammer to do ballistic checks and it was clean. We got it back after a year. It’s a Great Western Arms made by Hollywood props guys that figured if they were making guns for movies they should sell them to the public as well. My guess is that your gun was made for a movie and the script called for a fancy gun. Mine is chambered in 357 ATOMIC which is the same as 357 Mag. Cool pistol and interesting to think of who’s hands that piece had been in.

This is possibly a west german made "JP Saur & Sohn .38/357" i'd guess circa 1984 due to the frame stamp. The nickel finish may be thick and completely covered the light name stamp on the drivers side of the barrell. I had one with 7" barrel. Its built like a tank under that nickel plating. It will take .357 semi wadcutters like a S&W. Don't be afraid of it. If your worried, have an ultrasound done to the cylinder.

Couple days later my buddy offers to sell me a Thompson Center Renegade Hunter for $300. Granted it is a single stage trigger and lacks the brass fitting but I fell in love as soon as i saw it. Paid cash and brought it home the same day. Now it sits above my fireplace and i haul it down for black powder shoots. Thing was brand new in the box with a mirror bore. Same buddy bought it new 20 years ago as a replacement in case his Hawkens ever broke. Sat in his closet in the box until he sold it to me

Someone loved it, probably a sentimental piece. I have an old F.I.E. Titan II .380 Beretta knock off that belonged to my Grandfather. He carried it everyday and took exceptional care of his firearms. It looks brand new with very light holster wear as he kept and carried it a silky soft suede leather IWB holster. Even in Grade A condition it’s probably valued at $100 to MAYBE $200, but I wouldn’t sell it for $2000. I could definitely see myself having mother of pearl(not really because it would look ridiculous) custom made grips for it! Point being, I love the little pistol and it’s value to me would totally justify spending more money than it’s worth on dressing it up, etc. I do plan on getting something engraved on it to honor my grandfather. The man that raised me and made me the man I am today... it will cost more to have it engraved than its worth, but not to ME and hopefully whoever I leave it to when I join him!

Those proof marks are proof provisions certifying proof of a gun that shoots smokeless cartridges. circa 1951. The other one just on the cylinder, is a proof stamped on multiple barrel guns, hence why only the cylinder is stamped. its a multi-barrel component. (stamp used since 1891). You can probably take off the handle plates and get some numbers from there, or perhaps the hammer housing plate.

The EMF 1873 did not come with a spring loaded ejector rod, so you may have just bought one. On these guns if you polish the cylinder ports you can turn it upside down, move the ejector cover and spin it and the rounds should fall out, at least that's what the Cowboys did. Without any type of markings this may be a Hollywood replica gun and a lot of those were mechanically operational for both blanks and real cartridges. The EMF line guns were also Colt replicas.
@BatCaveOz
2 жыл бұрын
Hollywood replica gun... LOL. Why would they go through the trouble of rifling the barrel of a movie prop?
@wnolan6127
2 жыл бұрын
@@BatCaveOz let's see, most Hollywood guns are functioning weapons with rifled barrels, also they have to be able to properly cycle blanks that are sending 16k to 19k psi head pressures through the barrel assemblies. Case in point, Vince Gilligan received authorization from the state of New Mexico to actually use an authentic M60 machine gun in the last episode of Breaking Bad. The gun was set up by a certified armorer with a contract from MidKid Productions. Every firearm used in the production of Breaking Bad, Tombstone, Lonesome Dove etc was an authentic functioning gun. Another example you might be familiar with was that Brandon Lee was shot and killed on the set of The Crow because a projectile was stuck in the barrel of a real functioning firearm from the Hollywood production company and when the blank fired while filming, the head pressure from the expended gases sent the projectile through the barrel (that they were unaware of)and it killed him. Hollywood often uses production replica guns (non-retail) throughout the industry. These guns are registered with the ATF and taken out of retail distribution. They are specifically referred to as "replica guns".Why do I know this? Because I worked in the commercial and retail gun industry for over 14 years. Also, up until about the 1960s many guns that were specifically sold to Hollywood production companies that were taken out of retail distribution did not have manufacturer's markings or serial numbers on them, they were purposefully deleted, as the marking process is secondary. Nevertheless, which is harder or easier for Hollywood? Specifically making "fake" guns on different tooling equipment with no rifling or just buying a gun that's manufactured normally? The six shooter in the video that was bought at the pawn store is probably an EMF 1873 however because it has no manufacturer markings on it it may very well be a gun used from a Hollywood inventory. Nonetheless, I digress and I'm glad my post was amusing to you.

Could be one of the old German reproductions that were used in Hollywood through out the 60s and 70s.

Great looking revolver. I would say Italian by looks of it. Those pearl grips make the revolver really look nice and worth more than what you paid for it). Great video and nice shooting as always.

It's a thing of beauty. I can see why you fell in love with it. Sure has character. If it was mine I wouldn't take the grips off and sell them, they are part of the whole quirky coolness of the gun. Keep it just as is is. I really like it too.

No recoil plate and the marks on the cylinder and barrel are the Italian proofs for a smokeless gun made after 1951 and the gardone proof house, so the guns all Italian but without a better look at the gun that's as far as I can get you

More than likely a 1960's vintage Italian made pistol. Years ago I owned one identical,but with hard rubber black grips and it was chambered for 22lr.You have one nice piece there.

Seeing the pearl grips reminds me of guys who bought cheap barebones AR-15's and then throw $3000 thermals on top of a $500 AR. Some people just want cheap things to look nice, and it's defense in this particular case it's a good looking gun but the more you learn about it, the more you begin to see the lipstick on the pig. That's an amazing find for that price though. I've had a few guns that were way off in terms of where they impact, but so long as you're aware of it making the manual adjustment isn't too hard. Looks like it's going to be a good one.

Super buy, from a guy with a good Eye. I love looking a Pawn shop's or even Cabela's used gun section. Last time I struck Gold like you with that .38, was 3 year's ago I walked into Cabela's and about fell over. I have been looking for this certain riffle for years. as a boy I learned to shoot with one. A Remington Nylon 66 .22 long riffel for $110.00 Brown with white Diamonds. Been looking for that gun in Black

I love it when a firearm comes with something valuable. I picked up a Type 14 Nambu last year for around $700. The holster it came with didn't match it, so I sold for almost $300. Got a Type 99 Arisaka for $300, and sold the non matching dust cover for $250.

The proof marks on the cylinder look to me like they are (L) Gardone V.T. provisional Gardone proof, consisting of a star surrounded by eight lands and grooves over a coat of arms, featuring a hammer and anvil and crossed bayoneted rifles; the second (R) is a star surround by eight lands and grooves over the capital letters PSF. The "S" appears faint but seems there. If so, it's the definitive proof for guns with smokeless powder. So, I think it's Italian, since it appears to have Italian proof marks. In that case, Italian cartridge revolvers weren't "a thing" widely imported to the U.S.A. until about 1962, so I doubt if your revolver is older than that.

I've been shooting for 55 years now, collecting for around 50. I agree that this is a nice shooting Italian copy of the old Colt style. Personally, I would lay off the +P and stick with standard loads. Also I'm sure you realize that if you are going to carry this, even hiking, load only 5 rounds. Seems to have 4 clicks to it. Load 1, skip a chamber, load 4, cock and thumb drop hammer. Empty chamber.
