We went to France in our small Namajapan Eurotrip and made a stop in the wonderful city of Strasbourg and ate ALL THE CHEESE at the French cheese restaurant La Cloche à Fromage. It is well known to be the best cheese restaurant in Strasbourg, some even say it might be the best cheese restaurant in France. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try this one, especially as cheese is quite expensive in Japan, so you might want to eat as much as possible of it while you are outside of Japan. And what place is better to satisfy your hunger for good cheese than France?
La Cloche à Fromage is located in the center of Strasbourg, within walking distance of all other tourist places. As it can be pretty busy for dinner, I would recommend to get a reservation for dinner. Lunch time seems less busy, we just walked in for our cheesy lunch.
The menu offers a variety of ways to eat cheese, but the two main ones are definitely the cheese platters and the cheese fondue. They have a broad variety of fondues and platters, so even repeat visits won’t get boring. The fondue is around 30 Euros and can be shared by two people. They refill your fondue as often as you want, which is quite nice if you’re on the hungry side of the spectrum. The cheese platters come with themes attached like local cheeses or a cheesy journey along famous pilgrimage paths. They range from low 20 Euro for the small platters and go up to 35 for the bigger platters. Not cheap, but worth your money!
I can absolutely recommend La Cloche à Fromage as the best cheese restaurant I have been to in my life. Give it a try when you’re in the area!
