The best Ivantchuks video moment is when he's busy playing an 8x8 checker's game (for a wager I think) when he's called for getting his tournament first prize, he rushes to the podium and while he's waiting and receiving his prize, you can see him pondering and his hand moving imaginary pieces in the air because his mind is still totally busy calculating moves and variations in his checkers game (which he promptly wins once back to it) . We've all been there but it's very typical for him :)

I've been watching videos for years and years. This may be my favorite video so far. Thanks! Are there other videos of GMs describing so much of their thoughts during the game?

I feel ivanchuk is one of the best chess player in history but doesn't have the titles to back it up, on his day he can easily beat.Magnus

This video was amazing Levy. Nothing is more compeling than someone passionate trying to show what motivates him.

Amazing! It's one thing to see, and make the moves over the board, but to remember every move, every combo, every calculation, and throw in some other games afterwards, well that is an entirely alien/bot move.

It makes me happy that even a man who plays chess for a living and has seen and done nearly everything that is likely to happen on a chess board can still take childlike delight in finding a good move.

Wassyl Iwantschuk is the only man, of who Kasparow said that he was uncomfortable with in terms of dynamic positions, the natural habitat of Kasparow where he was pretty much unbeatable. So big respect from Garri to Wassyl.

Hi Gotham, In episode five of Queens Gambit was mentioned a game variation named after the Lithuanian chess player Vladas Mikėnas. Born in 1910, Mikėnas was the first professional Lithuanian chess player, an international referee, journalist, and author of books about chess. Mikėnas became the Lithuanian champion several times, won the Estonian Championship in 1930, and played in the finals of the USSR chess championship 10 times. In 1987, Mikėnas was awarded the title of Honorary Grandmaster by the International Chess Federation FIDE. Mikenas System, also called Flohr-Mikenas System or Mikenas-Carls System, is named after the Lithuanian player. The defence of the queen’s horse is also called Bogoliubov-Mikenas defence. Would be amazing if you could cover any of Mikėnas games in your videos :)

After that interview, they started using displays in the post-game recaps in Gibraltar. Which lead to another hilarious take with Ivanchuk spilling his coffee.
