What I love about ableton live is, it got an option to freeze a track if it causes issues and able you to unfreeze too case u want to edit. What more dope is that Ableton Live 11 now shows which track on ur session uses more cpu so u can freeze or flatten it.

Funny you mention Ableton feels like it was made by people who are actual musicians and not engineers, because it was! It was made by a German techno group from the 90’s called Monolake, they initially made it to just help them with live performances and then it grew into what it is. Makes sense why all the stock plugins/instruments sound so good, they were literally designed by a critically acclaimed techno group. The way that little shit like automation or side-chaining works just feels like the way a musician would use it, not an engineer. All the hard stuff is so easy in Ableton, which I can’t say about any other DAW.

Thanks! It seems Logic has many Ableton features since they added Live Loops and a new sampler and Launchpad controllers work out of the box. Also, Logic $199, Ableton 11 $399. With Logic 10.7, I’m back to thinking Apple is the most feature rich and best value.

Ableton is geared towards Classical Music accompaniment and EDM production. But, on its own, without having to import hundreds of third party plugins it is sorely lacking in my opinion when it comes to making complex, luscious , organic, atmospheric Ambient. I find that I constantly have to import VSTs by NI, and aven VST FX by NI because its native onboard FX are just not the sound I'm looking for NI Reaktor, on the other thing contains almost every sound I could possibly want for my Ambient jams and tracks, and for a hardware guy like me - that's saying a lot. If for some reason I suddenly found myself unable to use hardware and was told that I'm only allowed to use one DAW, that DAW certainly wouldn't be Ableton. And this is despite the fact that I really like Ableton for its intuitiveness and ergonomics.

I'm an electronic music running both Cubase 11 and Ableton Live 11. A couple of my hardware synths don't contain USB (Access Virus C, Korg MS2000R as examples), and are routed through a USB1 MOTO Midi interface. When activating the synth's arpeggiators, my equipment has no issues syncing with Cubase - the clocks are pefectly detected and aligned. This is not the case with Ableton. My synths simply cannot clock-sync properly. My guess is that Ableton's clock sync is likely designed for hardware with at least USB2.0 or later, and is certainly not designed for MIDI IN/OUT interfaces & cables or USB1. At least that's my experience. I know how to properly adjust the settings in Ableton and found some un-satisfactory work-arounds, but from a reliability & usability perspective, Cubase wins hands down - at least for me. For the reader,, maybe it's different for you. Stating which DAW is better than another is like buying a car. One person prefers a small 2-door coupe, while another wants a 4x4. One has great hadling and drives fast, the other can get you through the mud and snow. Both cars serve different purposes, which is why I have two DAWS and love them both.

From my point of view as a 'producer' that is interested in organic and progressive house who has been never produced anything just tens and tens 16 bar loops in fl studio, after month of using ableton yeah im not coming back to fl again. Dont get me wrong fl studio is GREAT daw but for my workflow ableton just works better, faster, for example drum rack, lets you want to program percussion loop , in fl you want to do this you will probably load your samples into your pattern and then start your programing in piano roll but each sample has own piano roll so in order to change something u will need to close the window and open another that one you want to change, ofc u can use fpc but cant use effects separately on each sample, drum rack? no problem oh yes and it will automatically create group in your mixer as one card and if you open it u can again edit each sample so even more editing room, in fl u will have to assign each sample its own mixer channel and the more you load in the more mess it will be. Also cpu usage is lower , plugins load faster and never crashed since day 1. So main reasons why i will just stick to ableton is better and faster workflow (drum rack, audio clips , how u control midi and sample editing), much clearer ui, less clicking more working. After two years i deleted all my useless 16 bar loops i created in fl studio (this is not fl studio fault ) and have two projects that i really like and actively work on them and actually are in advanced stage cause im not getting bored by infinite clicking/resizing windows then manually assign them number of mixer channel and etc. If you already have some knowledge or you know some advanced technical stuff from fl'studio but you are bored of infinite clicking than just ableton is way better daw imho. edit: forgot to mention superb stock samples and plugins.

Reason #4 In Logic if you have Smart Tempo turned on, Logic will automatically “warp” the file to the bpm of the project too. Logic has global auto quantize too. Since 2020, Logic has Live Loops similar to Session view. Logic’s Sampler is basically an Ableton Sampler clone with drag and drop capabilities too.

Hey bro, what's your opinion about Presonus - Studio One 5 Heard that it's the best DAW since 2 years and will be an industry standard soon I'm literally confused between Studio One 5 & Ableton Live 11. I'm a beginner about to start my music production, I don't know which one to consider. Should I learn both simultaneously, is it even practically possible to learn both at the same time. Heard Mixing and Mastering is disgusting in Ableton Live 11 and is a breeze in Studio One 5. Can you make a video on Studio One 5, please ? Love from India ❤️

The true reason ableton is the best DAW in this vid is that Bitwig isn’t in the thumbnail ;) Seriously though, Bitwig is literally like ableton on crack, y’all need to give it a look, it’s really good. Ableton’s got a live mode and arranger mode? Bitwig got both at the same time, where every track can be switched into live or arranger mode on the fly. Ableton’s got max for live LFOs? Bitwigs got a super convenient modulation section on the side of every plugin, native or 3rd party with infinite modulators. The rest of M4L? Bitwig’s got the grid, which is kinda different, but really cool. Oh, and the BW piano roll is insane. Only major thing Ableton’s really got over Bitwig is a couple of unique instruments and effects which are really cool, but they can kinda if be said for every DAW. It was literally actually developed by a couple people who broke off from ableton to try to make something more modern, y’all should really consider it.

Another complaint that you may have in the future of Ableton Live that you did not mention is having to switch authorization from one PC/Mac/OS to another. I'm dealing with that problem atm and man, is it ever such a real pain in the arse to deal with! You'd think it'd be as easy as just putting in the license key or having a de-authorization button to make it a much more smoother transition from one device to another, but nooooo, they're ridiculously stingy about it. It does not help that customer support just keeps on repeating itself like a broken record of just follow the steps.

I've been using ableton since the earlie 2000s but I think that sonically and audio quality wise isn't that good in comparison to other DAWs... Same samples different sound... I think that the ableton algorithm was designed for "live" environments so the program's algorithm sacrifice audio quality for stability... Now I'm using FL Studio because you can work with the full potential of the audio 64 bit realtime it sounds more fat more full and rich... I'm still using ableton live for live events but for music production I think that is not the right program for me... the stretch algorithms kinda left too many frequencies a side and it doesn't feel right. it feels thin and I think that the audio algorithm from ableton in general makes it sound like that because sacrifices audio quality for stability.

I used Live for 10+ years. I agree with others - for big projects, is is not a great tool. There are bugs in Ableton that have not been fixed for years. Also Ableton support is terrible. The forum admins are obsessed about complaints (trying to intimidate users who complain to much). Ableton website looks like made by some kids 40 years ago. On the other hand the program is very intuitive, not hard to learn and great for creation (inspiring). Having those small plugins always at the bottom of the screen and not being able to detach into another window is a big problem for me because thongs are to small and unreadable. Tons of problems with playing Video and endless problems with missing files (in projects). At the moment, I am thinking about switching to another DAW (or at least using it in parallel), but still cannot decide between Cubase and Studio One. I AM TOTALLY FED UP WITH ABLETON SUPPORT and that is a major factor, I am about to quit.
