Aloha! What a wonderful hike! I also trained for the Tongariro Crossing and was told no shuttle in October. I did the Tama Lakes with blue skies and met locals who told me an alternative to do the Tongariro Crossing to the peak and return to the car park. It took about 11 hours for 2 hikes in a day! I like the Tama Lakes scenery at the top better! Great video! Total steps 59k.

My dad used to take my sister and I to The Chateau all the time. We used to ski Ruapeau and Mt Taranaki known as Mt Egmont back in the day, which isn't in Tongariro national park. Still just kids he'd buy us cocktails at the cocktail bar, and we'd listen to the piano man then go skiing the next day and the day after that. My sister said they were closing down Chateau Tongariro, which would be sad. Great memories.

Haha yes! We love those commercials! Coming from Hawaii, we are big on sunscreen as well (probably should have used a hat as well though)

Pleasant surprise to see the Chateau - It closed in February, and there's no guarantee it will ever re-open due to structural problems caused by seismic activity. The owners, who leased the land from the Conservation Department, determined that it was uneconomic to undertake the needed remediation and handed the property back to government.

Great video guys, living your best life and making it count, as an ex tour bus driver in Europe , New Zealand and australia, and hailing from the South Island I can safely say your minds will be blown the further south you go. Both islands are amazing but the south is a whole other realm of wow.

Thanks! We filmed some on our full frame cameras, but definitely incorporated the GoPro Max quite a bit. It is very versatile and has been a great addition. I say go for it!
