2023 is kinda special, since new hype is opening up sales to new ppl getting into photography.. taking the next step after using a phone. The best camera for 2023 is any nicely depreciated model from the last 5 to 10 years. It’s all about the glass, and the light and the interpretation. Sensor technology from a decade ago is fine. Depends what you are shooting I guess, but for most ppl looking to take “better photos” than their iPhone, then any camera body will do.

I bought a used one over a year ago, I also have a X-E3 which has the same sensor & processor. I recently purchased the X-T5, I was surprised how smaller and lighter the 5 da compared to the 2. I'm thinking of selling one of the other two, I guess common sense says sell the X-E3 but I love the compact size, yet I can't quite bring myself to let the 2 go either, and I'd get more for it too, which would help pay for the 5

I still shoot with X-T2 and X-T20, and find them perfectly adequate. I own an X-Pro1, but find it a bit utilitarian after the X-T bodies. Oh, and I have an X-M1, which is a nice bit of kit, although not as good as any of my other Fujis.

Agree the X-Pro 2 is a great camera. But what you don't mention is the limited battery life. This is really poor and if you're out all day you need a pocket full of charged batteries. But otherwise yes it beats many newer Fujifilm cameras.

They’re still very expensive, $1,500 USD on average. I bought the first X100, and I loved it. But it was very limiting, the autofocus was terrible and only 12MP, that’s the last Fuji camera I used. I have the X-T5 as recently added an X-E1 for the kids to use - I enjoyed its 'analogue' feel so much I got sucked into buying the X-Pro 2 - and wow, I'm so glad I did. I am picking the X-Pro 2 up more than the X-T5, as it's perfect for the everyday social environment. Teamed with a wide prime, it's great on a day out. Often I team it with the 23mm f2 you had, or even better, my pancake Fuji 27mm WR, and it's super inconspicuous. I've even occasionally used my Helios 44-2, and it takes such warm photos. I agree; the X-Pro 2 is an absolute blinder of a camera-I think I'd let my X-T5 go before the X-Pro 2.

XE4 any day: smaller, cheaper, screen flips more than x100V, ICL, latest software and in camera processing, etc etc ... could do with 1 or 2 more buttons, sure, but I don't miss em. I can focus more on the scene. It's more flexible than x100V, more tunable than xpro2, better screen than xpro3 + smaller and cheaper than either... Nough said!

I wholeheartedly agree. It’s all subjective, but an X-Pro2 with a Fujicron/27mm pancake is such a great combo for throwing in the bag when you’re out doing non-photography things, and want to keep something with you, just in case. It’s just that bit more compact and lightweight than a Leica M, but still feels solid, substantial and well balanced. In comparison, the X-Pro3 is handy for waist-level shooting and is marginally snappier, but it can sometimes be infuriating to use and the OVF magnification is a definite downgrade. X-Pro1 gives superb results, but it felt a little ponderous in 2012, and hasn’t improved (autofocus, buffering and navigating are glacial compared the X-Pro3). X-Pro2 is just Goldilocks.

X-Pro1 for me… punches way above its weight. I don’t use film sims, and use it very much like my Leica M9 and treat them like film cameras with added digital convenience. I pretty much use the 18mm f2 all the time with it, but adapting my Leica glass works really well with that older sensor. My X-Pro1 is getting fairly battered now, so an upgrade is on the cards, and the X-Pro2 is the way to go for the reasons you mentioned regarding the viewfinder.

I bought the Pro 1, when the Pro 2 was issued. It was a grey market camera, new for $500. I bought it to see if Fuji was as good as people said. I used it for a short time and then bought the Pro 2. I also own the XT20 and while they each have the same sensor and processor the Pro seems to operate faster. Now I am a senior having photographed for more than 60 years. I was having trouble with eye strain using a EVF so felt the view finder on the Pro would work for me and it did. I now have had surgery for cataracts and now have 20/20 vision I still think the Pro 2 is the best camera I have ever owned.

I could not agree more. The X-Pro 2 is a fantastic camera, especially paired with any of the "Fujicron" 2.0 lenses. I looked at the X-Pro 3 and ruled it out due to elimination the dual range magnification of the viewfinder the X-Pro2 had when used in the optical viewfinder mode. And while the concept of hiding the main LCD screen (to discourage chimping) is a good one, the execution of that concept absolutely sucks. I also liked that my X-Pro 2 has the same button layout as my X100f, the reason being that my muscle memory makes both cameras operate in the same efficient manor. The concept of useful muscle memory seems to elude the Fuji designers who are constantly changing button locations with each newer model.

I upgraded from X-PRO1 to X-PRO2 the day it was launched. I loved the X-PRO1 concept but the camera was so slow whatever you did. So X-PRO2 was a huge leap forward. I was prepared to upgrade to X-PRO3 but when I started to read Fuji rumors about what would be upgraded I and all the bullshit about Chimping and the floppy screen and more I understood that I better kept my X-PRO2 and had to wait for a X-PRO4. It feels incredible in hand and produces images exactly how I want them; especially when combined with the outstanding "Fujicron" f2 lenses. What more could I ask for. I had the x-pro 3 for awhile, but I sold it bc of the hybrid viewfinder. I use Leica m-mount lens on my cameras, and the hybrid manual focus is very bad. A small portion of the lcd pops up on the right bottom in the ovf, and is impossible to focus using it. If you use the ever, the color is incorrect and is not bright making it hard to see. I think the body should be smaller for what it is. I also had the x-pro 2, but did not use it much for the same problems (hybrid viewfinder). I rather just use the x-e4, but it’s so hard to get with price that does not make any sense. I’m happy with my Sony a7c with m-mount lenses.

I stil do prefer the dynamic range and results I got with the Pentax K3/K5iis/Ks2/K30/K-etc etc, but here in Canada Pentax had poor customer service when I needed them, so FujiFilm was the logical closest choice. I also have an like new X100s with the 28mm attachment and a nice leather case from ebay which is a fun camera to shoot with which I acquired for 640 euro. the biggest problem I have with the X-Pro 2 is the price. I mean sure, the hybrid viewfinder is a very neat feature, but you can't use all lenses with it, it's a bit less accurate than the EVF, and on top of that it's not really usable if you want to use some lenses, either super wide or super long, you will have to switch to the EVF at some point. And then enters the X-T2. Dual tilt screen, more acessible controls, still vintage looking, dual UHS-II cards (instead of 1 UHS-II and one UHS-I), 4K video (that the Pro 2 lacks), vertical grip option, access to F-Log in video, overall better button layout (easier to back button focus on it)... ... and it's MUCH cheaper. I'd love to have the X-Pro 2, but I can't justify spending 800€ on one when you can get an X-T2 for 400. It really feels like you pay a LOT (twice!) for that hybrid viewfinder considering the things you loose on the side as well. Cool concept, but man the price makes it not that great of a value to me. (I'd definitely love to have one though. But hey, I'd love to have a Leica M10 monochrom as well)

I am going to say the Fujifilm GFX-100II, for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the least important thing is I like the look of the camera, I think the two tone colour looks good, the grip material looks nice and I like a more traditional SLR style body. Ergonomically, the camera is really nice. It feels good in the hand, I like that it doesn't have a flip screen (which I hate on the X-H2). I am not that bothered by having dials (the only reason my old X-H1 isn't my favourite Fujifilm camera). AF works really well, the sensor is really good, it has good stabilisation. Basically, there is nothing bad I can say about the GFX100 II. Which is why I think it is Fujifilm's best camera. I do have to give a special mention to the X-E1. The X-E1 is not a great camera but put a manual lens on the camera and it becomes so much fun.

Awesome video :) For me it's the X-E1. Love the tiny, light body with just enough controls to suit my needs. Plus the image quality is glorious. Bought an X-Pro2 to replace it but the Pro never quite hit the same mark. It was a little too big and the hybrid viewfinder was more of an annoyance than a benefit. I also shoot mostly vintage glass and I found the X-E1's peaking more useful (not a common opinion from what I see in forums and comments). Traded the Pro2 for an X-H1 which I didn't really jive with either. I traded back to the X-Pro2, loved it for a while, then went back to the X-E1. Traded the Pro2 for a X-H1 again, and am sticking with the H1 this time, lol. Love Fuji and the fact they have so many body styles wrapped around their amazing sensors. how in the hell did you get such a killer deal on what looks like a pristine xpro2?! with the discontinuance of the xpro3 a while back, the used market for both the xp2 and xp3 have sky rocketed recently. absolutely INSANE you got that setup for 650pounds. My lord! If I could find deals like that all the time, i'd be filling my tank up weekly with GAS because yeah you know GAS~!

Great video. I agree - I have an X-Pro2 and plan on keeping it forever. Love the F2 lenses that Fuji has for it. It's a great travel camera - not too large and a joy to use.

Glad you like your new X-Pro2. All the more recent FujiFilm options will give you a very good photography experience, just find the camera body that suits you best. A little bit of critique here: I noticed that several youtubers seem to align on the X-Pro2 being the camera to have recently. Not sure what to think of that. Kind of: X-Pro2 is the new X100V (since unobtainium). You read it here first. ;-)

@@Goughie nothing of that sort, mate. Cannot imagine why anyone would pay you for that . Who would gain from that. MPB maybe. I really appreciate your work here and wasn't trying to suggest a paid video. I was just noticing a larger interest in older Fujifilm cameras and was wondering if there is either a new trend or if people seem to have the same idea at the same time. Sorry if my comment came across the wrong way.

@@robertbreining ahh! I think critique threw me a little! 😂 I think people in general are starting to realise that new cameras often don’t really offer anything new! And with so few new Fuji camera to look at everyone’s looking back and remembering the cameras they loved in the recent past!

@@Goughie Cheers, Goughie. I also think so lately. I just wished I noticed FujiFilm earlier, but just got into the system 2 1/2 years ago. Personally, as I only do JPG I appreciated the newer Trans IV options and opted for the X-Pro3. Actually love the hidden screen (do the same on my X-T4) and 99% of the time use the EVF to get the image right in terms of exposure, framing, etc (no post). Anyway, sorry for the confusion. Keep up the good work, mate!

If only fuji releases older sensor with new processor and AF. Pre xt3 cameras have really slow AF-C for today's standard. I also wish they make cheaper xt5 with older sensor like xs20. I'm just casual user that likes bigger x-t series body and has no need for 40MP. X-t30 doesn't feel secure in my hand

Do you have a timestamp for a photo you’ve seen in the video? I’ll go find it and report back! If it’s the ladybird it was with the 30mm macro! I didn’t do anything fancy, it’s just a normal shot at f2.8! it’s the extreme of being so close that adds that depth of field, just plugged it into a depth of field calc F2.8 10cm 30mm macro =0.09cm! So nearly 1mm

I have an X100F and absolutely adore it, BUT... I have been sorely tempted to try one of the XPro cameras and the 2 was the one I have leaned towards. This video of yours is not helping and could end up costing me money 🤣 My only concern is keeing it as small as possible to use it for an every day carry and a travel camera (to use alongside or as a replacement for my 100F) so lens choice would be key. Any recomendatyions would be hugely appreciated (24 or 28mm, and a 40 or 50mm at full frame equavalent). Love the videos, keep them coming 🙂

Great video! Still have and shoot with my X-Pro2. To me it's the better camera when compared to the X-Pro3. It's been through a lot, including being soaked in the rain, and keeps on going. Its no longer my most powerful digital mirrorless camera, but it still remains my favorite. Anxiously awaiting an X-Pro4 and hoping for the new processor and 40MP sensor; a slightly larger optical viewfinder with the 5.76M dot EVF; and IBIS.
