SIMPLY THE BEST! My wife and I are always making some form of pan-seared rainbow trout fillets with some form of white wine butter sauce but being from Texas, wanted to try something grilled on the pit (everything tastes better grilled). Never made a whole fish though. After looking about 30 min, came across this recipe. It's simply way too easy to make and way too delicious for the amount of effort put into it! We just can't believe how good it is! Just fantastic!!! It doesn't need any sauce or anything extra. We're definitely adding this to our list of regular meals. I can't explain in words how thankful and appreciative we are! Thanks again!!!

I agree Grover Cessor, this was simply the best. I caught my first rainbow trout on Sunday and made this delish easy meal last night. The fish was moist and pulling out the bone was so easy!. I am going to try and use the head and bones for fish stock. Thank you. I oven baked mine for 7 mins each side...perfect.

A few other good indicators of a fresh fish are if the gills are bright red and not dull or pinkish, as well as if it is spongy to the press then it IS fresh. If you press on the fish and the indent you made from touching it stays there then it is NOT fresh. Thought this might be useful just to be safe :)

Followed this recipe along with Herb Beurre Blanc, turned out very good. Only issue were bones even after removing central and fin bones. The deboning falls on me I guess as this is my first run at grilling whole trout. I grilled 4 and had no issues flipping. Dish was great, I'd do it again.

So I went for it. Big Christmas Eve dinner. 9 beautiful rainbow trout. Wife heckling me on having rainbow trout on Christmas eve (The Kranks smoked trout / honey baked ham scene) 25 degrees outside. Grill range just big enough to fit those little beauties side by side, dorsal fin butted up against the cavity of the next. Highly risky maneuver, but doing 2 or 3 batches would have extended dinner start time. I had to throttle the temp given the draw of heat from a full bbq range full of fish but essentially I followed your method and only added some satsuma in the cavities of the trout in addition to your recipie. Results, superfantastic! Complements were thrown around like happens during Christmas, so how do I know it was that good? The kids cleaned their plates... Pro tip: I used a long spat to break the sear on the fish/grill and then used a special tong/spatula combo tool and they flipped just like you said.

@@Weekendatthecottage So used your recipe to cook 5 big trophies 2 days ago on the gas grill. They turned out amazing with the meat as thick as salmon. Ironically, when I use the indoor George Foreman grill, I keep them longer than 14 mins longer, they get really grilled like chicken almost as if bbqed. However, with your quick 7 mins each side, I got volume and wholesomeness as if served at a 5 stat restaurant Plus, the trout line was there indeed 😊 and super easy to remove the bone it took literally 5 secs. Using 2 tongs was also a brilliant idea. Finally, my visiting Australian uncle was super impressed with the outcome and taste. Thanks 😊 Note: Even when the bone is removed using your method as we know it there are still plenty of small bones left. For me and my uncles we don't mind getting out hands dirty and eating with caution. However, my nieces are picky and so I have to fillet the whole trout. So is there anothet trick to still remove all the bones using same method?
@Weekendatthecottage
2 жыл бұрын
My goodness - this is awesome!!! Only other thing would be to de-bone the fish before grilling - but - I feel the result pales in comparison. It'll be more like filleting salmon, where you run your hand over the flesh trying to snag those tiny bones - pretty tough. On another note... LOL!... make sure to check the site on Friday - coming up!!! I'm searing a fillet of Arctic char... you will LOVE. Hugs to the Aussies, from us in Canada, eh!
