Alan Francis has won the horseshoe pitching world championship the past seven years, but he's one athlete who has remained virtually unknown. Jeff Glor reports for the Weekend Journal.
UPDATE: Alan Francis won his 23rd Men's World Horseshoe Pitching Title in Florence, SC on July 21, 2018. He's currently on a string of seven consecutive World Championship wins. His longest streak is eight. He is the only person in any division to ever win five or more in a row three different times. Alan is also the only person in any division to have ever averaged over 90% ringers in the World Championship. He has done this three times! You could go on for pages listing all his world, state and local records and accomplishments in the sport of horseshoe pitching. Alan Francis certainly lives up to the title of this video.

@Mr Rich It's all about the rings and hardware. Francis has 24 world titles and those two guys combined are still far away from the 24 world titles by Francis. Always trendy to say the old timers would crush newer stars in every sport even with no facts to back it up. Bird, Barkley and Magic would whoop LeBron, Giannis and Steph in a game of hoops. I bet that's what you believe that too.

And the signature horseshoes that you produce with his name on them are second to none in terms of quality just like the rest that you produce. I currently own 7 pair of Thoroughbred horseshoes myself. Thank you Mr. White for all that you do for the sport of horseshoes and for running a first rate American company.

Alan dedicated his life to being the best in the world at something, and he's arrived. His life long commitment and incredible success as a multi year World Champion has allowed him (along with the money he makes from his full time job), to buy things like a modest single family home, a pop up camper, banjo, and occasional movie theater tickets.

I’ve played for 25 years myself.. best in our area.. I grew up playing on sandbars and etc with family.. most of our family can throw 3 out of 4 ringers every time. So we are very competitive and play a lot against each other for fun.. when we play other folks we never lose.. definitely a skill to it

Don't know why he's teaching the other guy to throw a "flip" shoe, unless it's to get "quick" ringers since the flip is easier to learn. But the flip's long term success is limited. He himself is pitching the turn shoe. I started learning with the flip, and it gave me bad habits, making learning the turn shoe extra difficult.

@gravehunder
12 жыл бұрын
No the clay makes it harder, You have to be dead on it ever time. If you were pitching on sand or dirt, the horseshoe could fall short and slide in for a ringer but on clay where ever the horseshoe land it stays. So you have to be dead on it everytime.

I am certainly far from an expert, but doesn't the mud make it slightly easier? It hits and stays, as opposed to hitting and possibly bouncing away?
@thirdlegstalliano
7 ай бұрын
No, because when pitching into sand pits, it's easier for players to get lucky by more or less rolling the horse shoe up to the stake. When pitching into clay, you either ring it, lean it, or miss it all together. Playing in sand gives more friendly bounces to unskilled players. In clay, you're either on point, or you're not

We are not serious about this subject because many think it's like the saying we grew up with that is so wrong! Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me! People lack true compassion and are afraid to hurt the Bully's feelings or rights. The internet is not helping ither!
