I would like to mention that Tru Grit gives a 25 percent discount for law enforcement. I purchased two of them for 3000. At the time they had free shipping also. The belt has a lifetime warranty as well. I love the magnetic resistance. It’s great for breaking up the running with what feels like an uphill walk or low resistance sled push. You won’t be able to run when it’s on full resistance. Their shipping left a little to be desired as far as securely packaging it. But their customer service was great and were very helpful and always answered the phone. Just my two cents. Thanks Coop.

I tried one of these today for the first time. It took a couple of minutes to get used to but, oh man, I'm in love with these. Just walking on one of these got my heart pumping and the sweat going way more than walking on a standard treadmill. Also, after about a half hour, I get some tightness in my IT band just walking on a standard treadmill but felt fine on one of these. I've avoided doing any cardio on treadmills because of my IT band issue but this seems to be my answer. I love these.

I have the assault air runner. it is a quality machine. I love it so much- it adjusts to your speed and feels so natural after a while. I've had the assault runner pro for about a month now and it was absolutely worth $3k. It's soooo quiet and there's minimal thumping, so it saves me some trouble with the gf trying to sleep and the downstairs neighbors. Also I'm a bodybuilder and therefore not a very proficient runner - the curved surface saves my feet and joints and allows me to pretend like I'm an athlete by running pain free. 10/10 would buy again!

I have always thought the same thing. Not that I wanted it all the bells and whistles (more stuff to break), but the Bowflex we just got has a 10 inch tablet built in to watch movies, bluetooth to work with applications like Zwift, stream your movies, videos where you can run through different cities, incline/decline, etc. But yeah, all that I mentioned and more- $1699. So I also struggle to understand how something that is 80 percent the same, minus possibly some really high quality bearings on the manual models and a beefy belt- costs almost 2x as much. And the most expensive part of most treadmills- the motor- is not needed.

Coop, just a suggestion. When you say what’s good for most people, I don’t think you are taking most into account. I’m in pretty good shape for a 65 year old and have used both non and motorized treadmills. There is no doubt for us older folks a manual treadmill is very hard to use. Maybe you think your demographic is only young people but I think you may be wrong and should expand your picks to perhaps older age groups also. Also, when you say motorized require more repairs, in general you are right, when in a commercial gym. But if it’s in a home gym, single use as you state, a good quality treadmill electric or not will last forever.

As a runner who started doing crossfit a few years back, I was super excited when our box got one about 4 years back (Assult Runner). The deck was so stiff, it felt like running one something harder than concrete.. Also, it felt like it was constantly on an incline which aggravated by my high hamstring issues . It was more difficult than running outdoors, whereas most treadmills are the opposite. Not neccessarily a bad thing, but I learned pretty earlier on that this was not a machine I was going to be able to log a ton of miles on. It just wasn't comfortable for me. The idea of it forcing you an certain form sounds good in theory, but sometimes that works like trying to force yourself into a pair of shoes that don't fit you quite right, even though they are techically the right size for you. Definitely try out the model you're interested in a few tines minimum before you pull the trigger.

I used to have a precor commercial one, Motor died out of warranty…replacement cost was prohibitive. Constantly had to realign the rollers because belt was slipping an drifting. Bought a assault runner pro…never looked back. Just grease it from time to time and change batteries. That’s all. Sure it doesent elevate, display is not fancy…but speed changes are instant. No feature on a motorized tread can beat that. If you do Intervalls, 30 sec on, 15 off for example, can’t do it with a motorized one. No fiddling with speed buttons, just running. Almost like outside.

If you time it right Assult fitness offers the Assault runner pro for 3k and they throw in the Assault Airbike pro for free! I ordered it I believe last year for black friday, but the previous year they had offered this for new years. I already had a Echo Bike so I sold the AirBike, so I ended up paying 2200 bucks for a brand new Air runner, which to me was justifyable in my opinion. It's really cool to do short sprints on these, and I certainly feel my hamstrings working while running for longer durations. I'm as average as an average Joe can be, so I'm not some fitness buff...hell I'm like 20% body fat, but I use this thing a lot more than my rower, or echo bike. When I'm feeling lazy AF or tired, I just hop on and start walking, then get warmed up and do a short 30min jog. It's worth it folks, it really is.

Back in 1990s, my mom bought a similar treadmill (no belt power but not curved) .. I put it together for her and she couldn't seem to get it moving ... so I tried it .. I hiked bluffs with my digs, walked & ran up and down stairs many times daily.. and I could hardly get that track moving. And when I did settle into a rhythm, the shin pain came on fast (again, a flat running board). This questions: is a smaller, lighter weight person going to struggle more than a larger heavier person to push off and move the belt? And: obviously a senior might lose balance or footing on regular treadmill, or get distracted, and be thrown backward. But is a curved kinetic tractoon safer? If it provides better natural movement for feet, knees, hips ans can be used by weaker persons, or smaller and lighter weight, I can see where $2k might be well spent.

Tell me exactly how curved " self motorized curved treadmills are harder than what I own now. My Trotter 685-cost 6500. In 1994---this is 2023 its had ZERO maintenance!!!----I won @ least a 100 races incorporating auxiliary training in addition to outside grass training using it. 20% uphill @ 12.5 MPH-----& everything inbetween is harder than anything I've encountered so far. No incline is very bad for total running specific muscle fiber development & recruitment. I burned up 2 gym treadmills doing 5K timetraila @ full treadmill speed ! Using 1-20% incline has made my entire running incredibly super strong-----especially coz I run barefooted. It appears to me the best option( price notwithstanding) is a good curved self-powered & a high level motorized version-----plus of course running out side on multiple types of surfaces. I've never been injured after 123,000 miles ( w 25K barefooted) this is the the result of bulletproofing my legs w hill repeats as crazy as 7X 1.1 mile uphill for time ,being driven back down!! ( better than weight-lifting!)

Curved treadmills are one highly popular home gym piece I just can't get behind. I really don't enjoy they way they feel during use, and they're crazy expensive for less functionality than a decent motorized treadmill. Also, why do they all have screens that look like they came from a calculator in 1985? In the age of Pelotons and all these smart trainers with 4k video and metrics to keep you engaged, why would these companies not improve their monitors? I would get it if they were all budget pieces, but I don't even get something that looks like its from this century for $10,000? Yea that'll be a hard pass, thanks.

Manual treadmills don't need power to run -- so, companies don't want to add a fancy monitor which would draw lots of power then require you to plug it in. The product's supposedly attractive having a shit lcd screen (running on batteries), instead of needing to be plugged into the wall.

I have the assault elite ! Would also recommend it ! For the extra $500 to $1,000 you get the cup holders which are a huge benefit , I’m currently training for a marathon on it and absolutely love it , you can put 10 to 20 miles on it and it’s equivalent to running outside , keep in mind when you first get the assault it takes a couple days to get used to

I’m glad you mentioned this! I was searching the comments for somebody who distance trains on the assault. Has it helped with your cadence? My thought is manual would help over a mechanical tread.

Coop (or GGR crew!), any predictions on Torque getting into the non-motorized treadmill game or some magnetic resistance form runner? Anxiously awaiting their fan bike and would be curious to see their interpretation for this treadmill genre.

I am about to purchase a manual treadmill but I can not decide. It's between the Assault Runner Elite at $3499.00 or the Xebex Airplus Runner at $3899.00. The price and size difference are not an issue. My issue is function. I would like one that is good for running for distance but the added resistance features of the Xebex, resistance, sled workout etc is tempting. I also have the added issue that my 80yr old father will probably try to get on it and walk or possibly jog so safety for him is an issue. For this reason it seems the Xebex might be the better option with the added resistance keeping him from loosing control. However the one comparison I've been able to find gives the impression that the assault runner is much better for distance running. Would you have an opinion on this? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Coop: Trueform just dropped price on lower model to match the drop in Assault Runner Elite, which now is only $500 more than the pro. A) thoughts? Still sane pic as the video at these prices? B) if I can get a basically new true grit from a friend for half off am I getting a steal or throwing away a grand that should go towards one of the better ones? Kind of bothered it doesn’t switch to meters but can use my brain to calculate. Thanks!

Base Xebex Runner is better than all of those. Even connects directly to Zwift.

In addition to the Assault Runner Pro and Elite models, There's also the AssaultFitness "Air Runner". Does anyone here use that? It looks just like the Assault Runner Pro, and seems to be the same thing, but the name is different.
