I don't know if you've talked about BlenderKit yet, but that might be worth covering. It has a HUGE library of materials and they're all free to use.

I've not done a ton with that one, so not a lot of feedback on it yet. Looks like a pretty big library though

Asset bridge incorporates both polyhaven and ambient cg for their materials as well as their assets. Just loads in a preview into the asset browser and downloads it as you drag and drop into the scene

Chipp Walters 'Eevee and Cycles Materials System', and also, his 'Kit-Ops 2 Pro' has an excellent system for managing your materials. It does come with a range of materials already included, perfect for industrial design, like metals, plastics etc, which is his speciality, but it's very good at managing materials in general, more powerful and intuitive than just using blenders built in asset browser. The Eevee and Cycles Materials System adds a load more textures/materials, which again, are perfect for sci-fi, industrial design type applications. Poliigon has made a specific add on to access and manage their huge range of pbr materials/models/HDRIs, which is powerful and easy to use. The add on is a free download, and whilst Poliigon do offer some free textures and assets, they are of course in the business of selling their extensive range of textures and assets. You don't have to use their add on, but if you do buy/use any of their stuff, it makes a lot of sense. The add on replaces the previous system they used, and sets up your pbr materials automatically in the shader editor, and makes applying them very easy. I personally think their prices and terms are very reasonable, and the quality of their textures is just superb. Go have a look at their textures, and download a couple of their free metal textures, and have a play with them. Their range of stuff is huge - just to give you an idea of how extensive it is, they have 372 metal textures and 324 concrete textures, in addition to all the other categories of materials. In all, I think they have 5000 + materials.
