You can easily align the audio with your video in your editor of choice (FCPX, Premier, DaVinci) by using a loud clap. Just clap loudly after you start your camera and audio recorder, then line up the spike. It's simple and works every time.

Keep in mind that anything this tiny is not going to record a very robust sound. I haven't done any tests (I own one) against a iPhone or iPad recording, but it should sound a bit better, and it will let you control the sensitivity for close-up vocals or ambient room recording. Would be interesting to actually set the sensitivity on high and record vocals by placing a pop filter in front of it, or even sticking of those puffy wind-sock filters. Otherwise, by adding a lapel (lavilier) mic or other external mic will give great results. I love my little Sony unit because it's on me at all times, because of it's convenient size.

Thanks Al, that was a great demo! However I was just wondering, as I know from your background you'd record mostly yourself in videos, do you know if it would record another person or persons voices across say a lecture hall about 10 metres away from you clearly (hopefully with minimal background noise!) without the use of the extra microphone? Reason I ask is I need to record meetings in large size rooms with around 50-100 people talking in various parts of the room!

Clip/lavalier mics are recommended by other websites for recording interviews - I'll be conducting 1-1 interviews for my research over the next year, some of which may take place outdoors and/or in public settings.
