I received this mouthpiece (tip size 6) today and intonation issues are solved! Apart from hearing this immediately I checked using a tuner (A=440hz) It feels very nice to play compared to the meyer I used. The meyer c melody piece plays seriously out of tune. Sax: Buescher True Tone "low pitch" sn :182910 (build in 1925 as far as I know). Reed: traditional (tenor) blue box Vandoren 2 and a Rovner Tenor ligature (inverted so screw opposite to reed (top-side). I picked a Rovner 2R that simply fits. Some tenor ligatures are too small for this moutpiece. I am very pleased with this mouthpiece!!

This mouthpiece really works, and brings the intonation into line.

Thanks! You can take it any number of directions with the GS RESO C Melody - it can be warm and round, or more projecting like this depending on reed choice and voicing etc.

Thanks! I think so too! Yes, alto is coming soon. COVID delays on the ultra high resolution 3D scanning has slowed them down a bit.

I have a 1921 Buescher C melody with the tenor style neck...and the original wooden mouthpiece! No idea what the tip opening is and it was a challenge trying to find the proper reeds, but I got an assortment and tried every size. Settled on 2.5. But no matter what size reed I use, the high notes on the left hand palm keys are nearly impossible to play...very "stuffy". I suspect a new mouthpiece with a bigger tip opening would help. I want more of a tenor sound so I'm thinking a tenor mouthpiece...but what tip opening would you recommend?
@GetASax

If you know what tip opening you like on tenor, for me C melody is best about one size smaller tip. Like if you play a 7 tenor .100” then maybe try a 6 .090” C melody.

What is this mouthpiece made of? Is it 3D printed? Thanks.
@GetASax
Жыл бұрын
It's made of dental resin. It's 3D printed and hand faced, but the material is really dense like hard rubber, with smooth surface finish. Different from 3D printed pieces that are made of plastic filament.

I picked one of these up, but I forgot to ask you what ligature you think fits best on it. What do you recommend?
@GetASax
Жыл бұрын
Anything that fits a hard rubber Otto Link will fit. Like a Tone Edge. I like the EchoMaster ligatures for something fancy, or the Vandoren Optimum or Rico H ligature for something less expensive but still great.

You could specify which nozzle it is (Details). if it is alto or C Melody? ... what numbering is it? ... because it seems to sound like an alto sax...Excellent sound!!

This is a C melody sax with a new C Melody mouthpiece. The recommended 6 tip opening measures .090". It uses tenor reeds. It feels like a 5 on alto or about a 6*-7 on tenor, and the C melody seems to like a tip opening around here. I think .090-.100 is probably the sweet spot for most players on C melody with the GS RESO C Melody mouthpiece.

@@shaomane maybe we can do a GS New York ( Meyer Bros) or Model A C melody sometime this summer! That would use alto reeds.

its probably because most saxophonists who play c tenor use a bb tenor mpc which will always be a bit flatter with tiny initiation issues.

Is this the 7* or the 6?
@GetASax
Жыл бұрын
This is the 6, but the 7* is also very comfortable to play - uses a tenor reed, so it feels basically like playing a 7* on tenor.

Tyler has a great sound in his videos. Which confirms a comment I read in another C-Melody video: “the c-melody is a combination of the worst parts of an alto sax and the worst parts of a tenor sax.”

This was Tyler's *first* time ever playing a C melody, so I think it's pretty good considering. The intonation on vintage Conns is very flexible, so you have to get used to the way notes want to bend around.
