Great to see that you fed the cut weeds to the critters. They liked it right?! Amazing to me how many homesteaders don't get that they have free fodder all around them. Thanks for the update on the mountainside pasture. It might be a good idea to use your step in fence to reduce their access on the steep slope just out of the pen down to an aisle so they move up the mountainside a bit. Take note of how nice and green the grass is in the original pen. That maure really does the job and it is full of undigested seed. So if they stay off the pasture that got overgrazed, it will come in beautiful before fall. You folks ae doing great Liz. Don't be anxious - it will all come in time 😊

Mike and Liz, it seems like it is a good practice to divide your pasture/eating areas into different sections so you can control the amount of vegetation the animals eat. Rotational grazing is practiced by farmers in many parts of the country. Blessings to you as your goals are achieved with your hard work.

Mike & Liz, I happened to notice that you aren't treating your fence post bottoms ( the part in the ground). What would save you a lot of work and grief later, when they rot off, is a simple process the Japanese invented where you can use a weed burner and burn them until they are black all around, on the part you intend on burying. This will seal the post and keep it from rotting through on the bottom so fast. Another good video and great job on the fencing!

I am really glad I stumbled across you guys. I had no idea you two had KZitem channels. When I saw the episode of Homestead Rescue, I thought you two were awesome hard working people. I see you have really done a lot of work to your place and it looks amazing. Keep the great videos coming.

Hi both from an unusually hot and dry wales, enjoyed watching You both fencing your ground into different zones. I have used the same screw in insulators that mike used on the trees for the last 30+ years here but I’ve never yet seen the tool he used in his drill. We’ve always started them off by hand then used a screwdriver to finish off. Keep up the great work guys.

If no one has mentioned before, when burying wood posts, even cedar, after stripping off the bark, burn the portion of the post that will be buried, it bug proofs the post and prevents rot..

Yes, some people even save all their motor, gear and hydraulic oils in a 5 gallon can so they can leave the pole ends in the bucket overnight

Just a thought: Might be easier and MUCH SAFER )(since you have no idea what's in that jungle) to rent a bush hog to clear out that jungle. BTW, you'll get more cleared out as well. Mothballs go a long way to keep snakes out of the woodpile Where your animals are inside the fence, are there any predators in there? This is why I suggested a bush hog and eliminate the possibility of lurking predators

With all the brush work you guys have been doing are there ticks where you live? I'm up in Northern Ontario and they are just unreal this year. Warmer winters they don't get killed off. Never had them before but we have them now. Just wondering if you have them how do you deal with them for the animals?

We haven’t seen a single tick on our property since we’ve been here. Although we definitely have them in the area. We check our animals though just in case.

I wouldn't worry about the deer. You need to worry more about bears, lynx, bob cats, mountain lions and wild dogs. It is a lot easier to replace a garden than to replace an animal.
