@@greggwinovich8196 super nice guy. And the hardest worker I’ve ever met. And into 15” gauge! He has an outdoor railroad in Strasbourg Colorado. He’s planning to move it and set up an amazing large railroad after retirement. Where does he find the time? They say if you love what you do you will never work a day in your life. So you could say Ed works 90 hours a week… or Ed has never worked a day in his life.

You did a wonderful job capturing the "Big Boy" during your chase. Excellent 35 minutes of footage was fun to watch. Oh, and I saw you briefly on another youtube video, ElkoDaily, talking about your camera equipment you're using to film the "Big Boy". Enjoy the rest of your chase, and show us some more great video captures of the "Big Boy"! 👍

This was an awesome collection of video clips. I very much enjoyed it. I'm glad to see you two back out on the road again. In 9 days, I'll be able to take a day off from work and go see the Big Boy up in Kemmerer. It's been 5 years since I had seen it. As always, you two put on a great show. Many thanks for bringing the Big Boy to us when some of us were not able to make it out to see this magnificent locomotive in action.

Neat camera (and lens). As I said in the past I went to Sacramento, Ca to see the cab forward. It was worth it. The Big Boy doesn’t impress me as much. Management of the SP was shrewd none the less. Great videos nonetheless the less. Cheers from the hurricane struck Texas Gulf Coast.

I was at the Brigham City Utah stop and I have a question...Big Boy was made in 1941(?) and a few cars down was a modern 6388, Ive always thought that modern locomotives communicate with each other, how does 4014 and modern locomotive communicate as far maintaining same speed??
@ToyManTelevision
2 ай бұрын
Hi. The two UP steam locomotives have some modern equipment installed. Mostly original but the Engeneer has a diesel locomotive control panel to the left of the steam controls. We have several videos on that. And now they have installed the federally mandated PTC computer control into the tender. It has been that those systems are only in the diesel so the steam locomotives couldn’t go anywhere without a diesel. Now they can and for the first two legs of this trip they had no diesel! But it’s needed for range and braking. So it’s back. Anyway a nice small diesel controller to the engineer’s left.

I have a question that has bothered me for some time. Every time I see 4014 go by in a video, I hear a clanking/banging sound. Is this what is called Locomotive rail pounding? I kind of sounds like something is loose. 844 does the same thing too. Great series, I don't have to say anything about last night 7/13/2024 , but pray for ALL those effected. ;-)

@@robertweldon7909 hi. It’s the side rods. While the bearings are tight and there is no play in anything all that metal clanks like that. Even the D and RG locos clank.

It’s probably written somewhere but what’s the choice of freight cars for the trip instead of the usual passenger train?
@ToyManTelevision
3 ай бұрын
Not sure. They are picking up the passenger cars in Roseville. The cars delivered to Roseville live in Omaha. So sent out? Or already there? Anyway as I understand it they need a certain amount of cars for braking. And they just received a bunch of new cars. So show this off? But mostly I think as they aren’t carrying passengers west why not change things up. Just for fun!!

That lens is a problem old TV camera lens. I adapted it for my GH2 just for shooting trains. But the front is bashed and the threads wrecked. A chip in the front glass too. Shows as a dark spot on the video. I have another of these lenses but the internal 2X expansion thing is screwed up. I’d like to find someone to take the front off it and put it on this one. Then I can even put a lens hood on it!
