listen, you're a badass. I like the work and progress you've made. It would be cool to see this come to market. I also apprecilove outside the box think. Problem is, you still need to use an analog stick for general movement. Gyro controls could fill the same exact role; without altering the current standard much at all. Bear in mind, People are picky and do not like change. You must find a way to out-engineer a Gyroscope. Also, fully eliminate the need for two sticks. It's essentially 3 sticks now. Keep pushing!!!

Not a very good idea, but all I can think of ATM, instead of an analog stick on the back there could be a more sensitive trackball. This should make it easier to move up and down as well as having a slightly better precision. There are downsides to this too, as there would be no where suitable to put it and would have an indent into the controller which would get in the way of motherboards. Anyway, goodluck.

This project is so cool. Imagine a world without aim assist and all fps players were on the same footing. There would be way more incentive to put pc and console crossplay. If this controller ever gets out to the public and works as intended than this could be the new industry standard for controllers. Really hope this releases one day! edit: For people that keep mentioning gyro controls I agree it's better than a normal controller when you get used to it but it's still nowhere near as accurate as a traditional mouse and keyboard which this project is aiming to target.

Most game developers even have trouble of implementing new control scemes like gyro or flickstick. They mostly get gyro wrong because they use rightstick value''s instead of mouse valaue''s. On the hardware front developers dont even seem to get that things like hall effect sensors are better then potentiometers. I still dont get why the steamcontroller failed. If you are willing to put in the time to learn steaminput the steamcontroller is greate. But i hated the form factor of the controller and the face buttons where hard to reach and to small. Thhe steamdeck has a greate layout but that only works because of the way you hold the device. I just wish more companies would try to make a gamepad like this with a mouse optical sensor and mouse accuracy.

steam controller vibes here. the steam controller also had something big. gyro support. this made a big improvement in aiming within FPS. it provides the fine tuning aiming needed. in idea the concept was to use the touch pads on the steam controller (like how you are using your thumb controls) to get on point or very close.. than the gyro to pull quick fine tune shot controls. maybe you should take a look at concept once you believe your have perfected the thumb control to add on top of that.

Love the progress! I didn't think it could get better and honestly I was a little skeptical when I saw the thumbnail but damn you managed to do it! I personally find traditional keyboard and mouse pretty uncomfortable to use in longer sessions and this would be an amazing solution! As for changes I would make: - maybe some sort of lever that pivots inorder to hit the q and e keys on top of the controller with maybe your ring, middle, or pinky finger (could also be detachable so the controller could be adjusted according to personal preference) - a limiting slot for that back analog stick. Limiting it to only horizontal movement. I can see how in a firefight you might go for a quick turn and accidently tilt your camera up or down too far in a direction and disorient you and increase the amount of time you need to get on target. I wish I could help you on this project, but I'm furiously applying to jobs so that maybe I could land one in my major (comp sci). If you could instead of using the back analog for larger movements, you could just use pressure sensitive buttons( or tension plates) under the bearings. Hey, all my suggestions are related to flicks/accel issues. 1. It would be great to move backstick closer to the right hand to allow it to be operated with one finger. 2. For such a small action I think acceleration on the thumb-mouse is very important. It can be: a. Special gated acceleration on an optic sensor for the flicks. b. Additional pressure sensing under the thumbmouse to trigger more spatial and gated acceleration options. Keep it up, your iterations are awesome.

All I can think about when coming up with ideas to overcome large movement needs in a small form factor is the legendary trackball flick. This sounds like a recipe for complexity but maybe put a teeny trackball over the optical sensor, reverse the input direction and considering you get the friction low and the weight of the ball right, it may work?
@dra6o0n
3 жыл бұрын
Having two of these sensors on the back grip where you can roll back and forth sideways makes sense, your fingers is occupied, your thumbs are occupied, but you have your palm which is gripping the surface of the controller. What if you make the controller flexible in itself and can 'flick' by twisting or bending it? Or better yet, what if it's two controller joined with a sort of stiff cable attachment that is durable, but it's loose enough to 'twist and turn' both halves like motion controllers? This way you control your aim by 'twisting and bending' and aiming the right controller, almost at a joystick sort of level? You can get precise movements with slight motions, and fast turns with flicking motions. Think VR haptic feedback gloves but imagine a invisible tether between your left and right hand as your hands are forced to be together.

The rear analog could be replaced with a mini trigger perhaps. You don’t want to sell a product that needs a lot of setup with additional software, the controller will be dead in the water. You want this controller to be ready to use out of the box with very little tweaking. Consumers expect products to work out of the box without a large setup guide or additional steps.

Hello Tech Yesterday!! I’m a mobile gamer and grew up with controller as well. I see that there really is a gap between utilizing a mouse and a a keyboard. Now with mobile gaming on the rise, there are more or less pros and cons. If you’re open, I’d like to chat to see we can come up with a solution for the future of gaming. Love it mate, can't wait to buy my own or make one. The Gyro thing seems like a logical next step. If the joystick on the back is designed for horizontal movement, could you limit the joystick gate to just left and right? If this is going to be a commercial project, time to hire a patent lawyer if not done so already.

I feel like the biggest drawback of this design is the thumb sock. Clearly, it works, but thinking in the average consumer's mind, how many people would find that acceptable? Of course, based on what we've seen from trackpads a sockless design just isn't accurate enough. You should have a look at the new steam decks' trackpads. It isn't out yet so it's hard to tell, but they are supposed to be much more accurate. Anyway, I love every single one of these videos and am so glad someone is trying to shake up the controller hellscape with viable designs and not some stupid gimmick.

I wasn't able to catch this video when it came out, I had some family related issues going on at the time that were pretty substantial But goddamn man, I'm more than impressed with your work here. The V1 was insane to me, but this puts it to shame! No matter the cost, whenever you make these available to buy, or even if you have a spare one made, I'd be more than willing to buy one of these from you. I can't even imagine the content I could make with one of these, its endless I think more eyes should be on this, but at the same time, I'd like YOU to be the first one to sell these. I'd hate to see someone else take the idea and use it themselves, this has consistently been the most exciting device in the gaming space on KZitem from my POV. Anyways, keep up the good work man. I look forward to your next project, and the next iteration of the mouse controller!

It's awesome to see new developments like this, but I do think that gyro aiming combined with 'flick stick' large scale rotations using an analog stick has mostly made this a solved problem. Hopefully all this will see wide adaption in games moving forward and gaming will evolve fowards from just using a tiny analog stick

Nice improvements! Some thoughts; Finally mentioned gyro, no mention of how good gyro is. For those wondering. 92k. kzitem.info/news/bejne/zn2uuKykb3udgHY Thumb sock on touch pad eliminates the friction issue with touch pads, will weigh a lot less than having the disc. Steam Controller touch pad serves as the "fast turn" input that the rear stick does, gyro handles the precision. The benefit the thumb disc has over touch pad is more surface area, and this demonstrates my complaint with the steam decks touch pads; they shrunk the size of the touch pads on the deck a bit, which is not good. Even on the steam controllers touch pads I'd probably struggle to hit 50k, simply because of the lack of surface area needed to be both fast and precise.
@caseyl5001

I think the steam deck has touch sensitive joysticks that let you use gyro aiming when your thumb is placed on the stick. I could be wrong on that but that might solve the issue you have with it. I hope I’m right on it because I agree with you that touch pads seem way too small.

We've already had mouse accuracy in controllers since 2015 with gyro and there are videos out there of people nearly reaching up to 90,000 on aim lab using it. Even I reached a similar score to what you did on my FIRST TRY with the Dualsense, a controller which is readily available now. The steam deck is even using gyro as a selling point cos of it's accuracy and gyro is a simple non intrusive addition to a controller set-up that people are already use to. You're offering a thumb mouse controller with a back stick, I'm happy to be proven wrong but I just can't see your controller taking off.

@@stoopidhaters Gyro has been around that long but didn't gain real popularity with shooters til Splatoon came out in 2015. That same year some PC users started using the same implementation with the steam controller and Dualshock 4 on PC. The switch further boosted the idea with Splatoon 2, now nearly all shooters on switch have gyro due to large demand. You're right though, that gyro is not popular with playstation/xbox users. They just have no idea what they're missing

@@stoopidhaters Out of topic but an interesting thing to point out is, gyro is widely used and implemented on mobile shooters. In my time studying in south east asia where mobile gaming is more prominent among the youth. These guys can achieve really good aim on their mobile phones. One thing to consider is that most mobile games have little to no aim assist whereas consoles have more. Mobile gyro gaming has been a new feature since pubg mobile's release in 2018, then every game started implementing that as an optional setting, so it began to have widespread use bit by bit. I believe this will have a similar effect on controllers if Devs add an option for it. And one day, aim assist will be reduced just like what it did on mobile. But to do that, I agree with you that the controller needs a touchpad and gyro implemented so the player can make a choice
