I was 10 when real world first came out. I used to have to sneak to watch it because my dad wouldn't let me watch MTV shows at the time. Can't help but think that the show played a part in my decision to pack a uhual and move to NYC when I turned 18. When I was pulling out the driveway in the uhual my dad was crying....like sobbing, he thought I was going to die in the city. I'm from rural northern michigan, where I'm from the nearest city is over 100 miles away...just a walmart is 45 miles still to this day. I'm 39 now and have lived in big cities all across the country. It's so reminiscing watching these. Ty MTV

I'm your age and had a similar experience, although it was the third season that did it for me. It's hard for people to appreciate now but this really was groundbreaking TV back then, there was literally nothing like it. Growing up in Wisconsin, seeing this show was really the first time I realized just how big the world is and how there was room for all different kinds of people in it. That helped me a ton as a kid/teen who never felt like I belonged where I'd grown up.

I was 12 when this came out and it's definitely shaped who I became. Well at least the good parts of who I became LOL I quit watching it after the London season I didn't even make it through that season to be honest. It seems like that was a turning point at least in my opinion where people were auditioning to be on the show just to become MTV famous. What these youngsters don't realize it's just how much the first few seasons influenced society. I remember President Bill Clinton speaking publicly about AIDS and Pedro and how they named a street in San Francisco after Pedro. Even then aids was not very talked about in mainstream media. MTV and the real world played a huge part in contributing to AIDS education, amongst other things.

Julie is one of the best characters in "The Real World". She is caring, she is hopeful, she is sweet, she is funny, and she is the best female stranger to join with her other room-mates ever. Hope that Julie will have the best time of her life after appearing on "The Real World" in 1992.

the first 10 seasons were the best, after 2001.... it went down hill and clearly the ratings started reflecting it. the first 10 years I feel like they really found great honest people to be a part of the series but after The Back to NY season, they kept casting token characters, for example the gay guy, the lesbian, the mean black person, the free spirited person, the party guy or girl, the model type, it just felt like we kept seeing the same type of person recasted every season.

BUT this girl is a psycho, super smart, talented... she lead me on... owed me money now and i didn't turn in the court paper work and just this week i found out she set someones house on fire that had an order of protection against her.... fatal attraction? but anyway, its funny how you want something via the boob tube.... someday you basically get that something but its like a deal with the devil.. some bedazzled scenario lol
