The extra 100 gets you a multi shoe mic and a completely wireless and battery less solution for on the go shooters. The Sony microphone looks good, but I am always nervous about using anything but a lav mic. I exclusively use those for audio because I can move around so freely with them and I usually only need my voice for videos. Also let's me get away with far less sound treatment for rooms indoors. For important videos, I combine the the Zoom F2 BT with the Zoom lav that came with it and sync it to the camera audio. If I am far away from the camera, I hide the Wireless Go + Go lav somewhere on my body for syncing and as a backup microphone. For less important videos, I just use the Wireless Go + lav mic and feed the audio directly into my camera. I noticed that the audio from the Zoom audio recorder is a lot crisper and cleaner. I don't know if it the Wireless Go or the camera degrades the audio, but the difference is like day and night. It's good enough for a simple live stream, but I would never use it for more professional work now that I know how good the F2 is.

So I've been using a gopro to film our rock band and the high SPL's just wreck the gopro's mic. I've been relying on an old Zoom H2N for room audio and mixing it with the sound from the mixer to get a somewhat decent result but the Zoom is starting to act flaky so I grabbed the Sennheiser MKE440 stereo mic and the results are great but all you get is a 3 way toggle switch for the levels so it's still hit or miss. I've finally caved and ordered a Sony AX43A to use as the main band camera and am also considering grabbing this mic to go with it but wondering if it's really worth that investment if I already have the Sennheiser? With the Sony's ability to set mic level and monitor the input levels on the screen, that seems like it would be easy to keep an eye on that during sound check and adjust the gain in the camera accordingly and that would be fine but with batteries, a cable and somewhat large footprint, the B1M is still a consideration but don't know if it does improve the sound, will it improve ENOUGH to make it worth the price tag?

Can I use these Sony mics on non Sony camera? I plan to get the Sennheiser MKE 440 on a camcorder I plan to buy too, Panasonic HC-X1500, the camcorder has an optional grip with LED and 2 XLR input, that Sennheiser MKE 440 seem like one of its kind and better stand standard shotgun mic, do you think so and if so, does thee grip still necessary because it going to be bulky and it mainly is to attach a standard shotgun mic and does the XLR going to provide noticeable better than. The 3.5mm jack input mics? And also us 32 bits record necessary over 24 or 16 bits?

Using the micro is ok but if I turn the camera away from the DJ's speakers I lose some of the sound's vitality I think...I guess I need a mic that has directional and also allows for ominidirectional recording..this one seems to do it...I would use it exclusively with my Sony FX30...is this the best solution for my situation? So the reason the Sony Mic is so good has nothing to do with the Mic really. It has to do with the digital interface. As you know Camera 1/8” mic input are not all that great. So by bypassing there own ‘weak’ 1/8” mic they improve the sound. If you compare that Mic to say MKH running into the FX3 audio handle and then well it not all that exceptional. Don’t get the wrong that it’s not a good Mic, because it is. Sony has experience making Mic’s If they would improve there 1/8” preamp then well all mic would sound better. And not to pick on Sony most camera have weak audio. Even high end camera because in a high end video work the audio is being done by Audio engineers and recorders like the Sound Device 888

This makes sense. Camera audio inputs are typically disappointing, so bypassing that entirely is a good idea.

I have been crying for Sony to introduce a smart hot shoe extension cable so this microphone can be mounted elsewhere other than directly on top of a camera, especially when the camera is rigged up 🥲

That's got to be possible, right? It'd definitely be a helpful thing to have.

Ahh, I actually didn't know that's what a mic like this was called. Normally I'm an "old fashioned" guy myself, but the versatility of this is something that I haven't found in another mic.

For under $100 with no battery and the ability to work as a USB mic, they’re pretty handy to have.

I appreciate the content, but from a viewers perspective the over usage of all the puns and play-on-words is actually a bit exhausting. Every time you do it, it makes the viewer audibly step back subconsciously and forces them to re-engage with what you're saying again as you continue. Once is great, twice is fine, but any more than that and it becomes a distraction. I know it's silly, but I actually have a really difficult time watching your content because of it. I find it audibly exhausting.

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely would hate for my videos to be exhausting, but goofy jokes and things are just a part of my personality. They’ve helped me connect with students and viewers for many years, so while it might not be for everyone, it’s what’s natural for me.
