Great project. I made mine using pressure in place of a pump. If you ever feel like having more water pressure, consider this: In place of your electric pump, I just added a Schrader valve (similar ones on bicycles) and made sure it's completely sealed and held strong in place. I believe these military grade water tanks can withstand being pressurized. Pump it to around 30-40psi or higher if your water tank can withstand and you have a pressurized water system. Works similar to the Nemo showers/road shower brand, etc. I like this setup for my own needs because it has a lot more water pressure than what a 12V electric pump can provide. I like being able to blast stuff off even if it's a fraction of the pressure of an actual pressure washer. For us off roaders, we often have air systems for our tires which is perfect to help pressurize a water tank like this. Or, a simple bike pump will suffice. Or serve as a backup for systems redundancy.

You can use a second hand stainless beer keg (they are rated conservatively to 45psi) and you can buy a fitting that goes right onto the spear threaded for a schrader valve. 15.5 gallons.

Another cool addition would be to add a pressure switch into the hose between the pump and the quick connect. That way you can leave the power always on. The pump turns on only when the water is flowing but gets shut down when you release the sprayer and pressure builds up

For a camp shower, I just spliced the hose of a kitchen sink sprayer onto the hose of a garden sprayer (both are 1/4" ID, use a short piece of 1/4" copper or other pipe and 2 small hose clamps). Add warm water, a few pumps and you have an instant camp shower! You can take it back apart to use as a garden sprayer again. Obviously, don't use one that you have used noxious chemicals in~~~

If I build one, I'll probably pull a few inches of the black power cord through the grommet just to be able to flip the battery pack so the ports are facing down. Using a standard water jerry can. If you adapt the fittings to the lid the pump setup will be transferable to other water Jerry cans you may have. How long does the battery last? How much time in minutes or hours approximately can the full battery pack last? Just wondering in case I should buy an extra one for multiple showers.
@zackbier
4 жыл бұрын
The battery pack I used was a 3000mah, which is equal to 3 amps. The pump I used is 1.2 amps @ 12v, so technically it should be able to run the pump for over 2 hours, which is far longer than it would take to drain the 5 gallon tank. So you should be able to take many many showers on one charge. Personally I've gone on many road trips and have used this setup for my shower and a sink I built in my sprinter van. The batteries have lasted great. Things like hot temperatures inside your vehicle and turning it on and off will probably drain it a little more as well, but I know for a fact that you will be able to get a lot of showers out of one battery charge. I do have a few of these batteries though just for convenience, I will keep an extra charged so when the one i'm using does run out, I swap it out quickly and recharge the other one.

Hey good questions, here's a link to a newer version I made and the battery capacity is 6000 mah, so it's double the capacity as the one in this video. Honestly though, the 3000 mah battery serves the purpose just fine and lasts for 25 gallons or more of use. To make this power directly from a cigarette lighter socket would be very simple. Just buy one of these and splice it onto the power cord coming out of the jug, then just plug and unplug it as needed into the cigarette lighter. amzn.to/2SO6E1r

Does it harm the pump if its on and you're not holding down on the nozzle trigger? Thanks!

Not from my experience. It has been totally great and at this point I’ve used it hundreds of times.

I wonder if there’s a way to do this to a water rotopax and connect it to my battery in back of my Jeep where my fridge is plugged into.

100% yes indeed. Not sure what your battery has for ports to plug things into but you could easily attach a cigarette lighter plug or any 12v plug head to the submersible pump wire and plug it into your power source whenever you want to use it.

Paint the scepter can black or buy a black can and you'd have warm water

Great video! One thing I would do to improve reliability would be to mount the quick release up top on a solid part of the container, not on the lid. That way it wouldn't stress out the tubing connections every time you have to fill it. Thanks for sharing man!

Brilliant. I'm going to do it. But rather than mess around drilling a hole and feeding the power wire through the back I'm just going to use a rechargeable 12volt submersible pump like the type you get with a camp shower. No power wires needed as the pump and the battery are in the same waterproof box.

Do you have any links to share for a good rechargeable 12v submersible pump?
