Most of the time in ground beef that’s not “grizzle” as in connective tissues its fat the best hamburger is made with 85\15 you can get connective tissues added in at specialty butchers but in general at the grocery store there isn’t very much in ground meat now if you look back at Jamie Oliver’s attack on “pink meat” this was actually horrible meat production but it did include all of the connective tissues ligaments tendons and the like processed with ammonia and hence died red pink.

Thanks Thomas - 35 yrs ago I weighed 118lbs, had high cholesterol, I quit eating meat, saturated fat. Started feeling lousy about 5 yrs ago. Pretty active, weighed 125lbs, diet mostly vegan. Then, a year and a half ago I ended up in the hospital, $25,000 later they could not find anything wrong. Started doing my own research online, found your channel and several others I grew to trust. Started 16/8 fasting, eating saturated fat again, closely monitoring carbs - feel better than I have in years. I actually had to pull back quite a bit on fasting because I got down to an unhealthy weight. I thank you for all your research and commitment to facts and accuracy, no hype.

An interesting factoid I discovered when I started my ground beef journey. From the butcher at Whole Foods: _Pastured Raised_ means raised on pasture but finished (fattened) on grains in a CAFO feedlot before slaughter. _100% Grass Fed_ means 100% summer pastured and winter hay foraged when required and no grains which gives a better fatty acid profile but maybe not a more flavorful and juicy (fatty) steak. Meat from cattle not fattened on grains is more expensive than so-called pasture raised which is more expensive than conventional intensive industrial-style raised cattle.

@learn-when-you-stop-talking
7 ай бұрын
it's not just the gristle, it's the tendon and connective tissue which pure animal muscle doesn't entirely provide. Having just returned from the Phillipines and SE Asia, they eat all sorts of internal organs, not just chicken breast and animal muscle. The true value of eating animal products isn't just the muscle, it's the connective tissue which ground beef or salisbury steak will contain in a digestible form.

@learn-when-you-stop-talking gristle, marrow, fish eye, cow foot, we don't waste food lol... I don't know enough about the Philippines to comment, but that's cool. You had a good experience. I spoke on my culture. My comment was a positive one.
@learn-when-you-stop-talking

@@LoveyourzAF Completely understood and agreed. in October 2023 I had a trip to South Africa and had stewed OxTail at a dinner---I didn't realize it was a delicacy and am glad I had 12 pieces (!) of it before it was all gone. Unfortunately, all the white/caucasian americans didn't try it because it looked foreign to them, but all the black-americans that attended likely ate it up. After my return home (to Canada), I told my south African friends, and they told me that it was expensive and considered a delicacy. And I found out it was $20-25cdn/pound here as it's in demand from so many cultures, including the caribbean. The bone marrow from the tail is what makes the broth so rich. Then, one of my ZA friends told me that all her siblings moved to Australia, and there is so much cattle there, and so few people eating ox-tail, that all the Oxtail is piled up in the coolers for dog food, and her brother when having a BBQ, will go to the dog food mart and take as much ox-tail as he can, as so few people eat it there, and it's dirt cheap and considered "pet food". Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean it isn't healthy. As an older person, I now understand that the true value of eating protein is in the connective tissue, as this is why vegetarians and esp. vegans are royally screwed. (PS veganism is a first-world affliction. I was met with complete laughter in South Africa, Phillipines, Hong Kong Cambodia and Korea when I asked if there were any vegetarians around. )

As long as I drop my carbs because of the higher fats in cheap mince. I have actually discovered this was cheaper and better for my body. Also because I has lost my job and was on a very tight budget, that canned mackerel depending on what brand was also way cheaper and better then tuna. I basically get double the protein and more fats and nutrients for half the price. There are other cheap foods that I had no idea were much better for overall health and alot cheaper. I went carnivore because of an accident that left me unable to move much and i gained a lot of weight im 55 5'2" WAS 195/205 depending on when i weighed my self i can only eat 2 pounds of ground beef a day i salt it up and make a big patty that i cook to a medium temperature and im always full, i started adding in some fruit in the diet, ill fill a pint with frozen strawberries then cream and mix in the Ninja Creami for something sweet. I lost 65 pounds without exercise and since the surgery i can walk again with less pain and can lift up to 8 pounds over head

It's a nonstarter for most people who have gout. Ruminant meat has a moderately high levels of purines, which can cause extreme swelling and pain in the joints. I did a 3-week experiment where I increased my intake of grass-fed, grass finished ground beef from a pound every 2 months to a pound a week. I made no other changes in my diet or activity levels. My left knee swelled like a grapefruit and the pain level in my knees, hips, and hands increased to at least 8 on a scale of 10. By 10 days after I quit eating the red meat (the only change I made), the swelling was gone and my pain levels were back to a scale of 1 or 2 out of 10. I didn't think I had gout, although it runs in my family. Now I know that is a possibility.

I use creatine and caffeine to give me energy when I train without food, as fasting and training nets you the highest growth hormone in the universe. As long as you eat the amount of calories before you sleep 2 hours at least at the end of the day you can either gain size muscle mass or lean out, this also is dependent on what you eat exactly lol. you know the macros stuff, and how clean the food is. One last thing to note, too much creatine is bad for your kidneys, this is not told enough, becauase the people that make the creatine will lose money. If you have kidney problems stay away from creatine.

So this should also apply to those who break down their own steaks from the muscle group and keep all the connective tissue & gristle on each cut, instead of getting the trimmed down steaks that are sold at retail. The added benefit of cutting our own steaks from the muscle group is that the gristle is still whole, adding resistance when we chew. This improves jaw health in addition to the nutrient benefits.

Great news! We eat mince regularly, as the base for chilli con carne, Bolognese sauce, cottage pie & burger patties. The first two freeze well, & are great for bringing to elderly relatives. When gifting, I often add in extra collagen, a2 milk powder & high protien cheese, as I know my extremely frugal aunt will try & stretch each serve into two or even three. Any traditional casserole or stew, like goulash, Stroganoff or Bourginion can be modified to use mince.

This was a good video for me to watch. I am very slowly regaining my health through clean keto. It's so challenging to keep going - not because I'm tempted to cheat, it's been easy to give up grains and junk food. But my energy levels are so drained, every day tasks are challenging. The only food that gives me a bump in my energy the day after eating it is ground beef. Lol, I just stocked-up one a bunch of grass fed/finished ground beef that's on sale. I think I'll order some more! :)

Hey well done! Remember that your body gives you energy for what you need and not the other way around. If you sit still, you'll stay stationary. If you move frequently, your body will get the message, maybe even despite a nutrient deficiency or illness. It seems backwards I know.
@RichardHarlos
6 ай бұрын
@@defj660 I've heard that when people go keto and feel less energy, it could be an electrolyte issue. Many people who know more than I do about it (I think they call it the 'keto flu') suggest adding more salt into one's day and that the symptoms (low energy) will go away. It could be worthy your while to check into this and see if it's the right solution for you. Cheers!
@defj660
6 ай бұрын
@@RichardHarlos Right you are. Electrolytes keep muscles moving but they're linked to the stored water that drains from the body on keto, and losing water lowers blood volume, leading to hypotension. Dizziness and sight changes when standing up would clue a person in to low electrolytes. So since they're no longer being stored, electrolytes need to be constantly eaten. Benefits and cons to keto. I'll add that sea salt will take care of your sodium but magnesium (the big one for energy) and potassium are best coming in from cocoa powder and cooked dark leafy greens respectively for the biggest and cheapest hit, as far as I know. In case you're curious, I don't know.

I have seen several bright chiropractic/nutritionist people emphasize that it isn't just beef, but the kind that matters, and that grass finished, not just grass fed, is by far the best. Grass fed means they eat grass most of their life until months before they are fattened up to slaughter. Grass finished means 100% grass fed, for the life of the animal.
