Great compilation thx ... I get the impression Lomu was not built on steroids etc like the rest might be doing now, he was 6ft 5" and had natural ability to weave, dodge, expertly push people away like swatting a fly, whilst at the same time plotting his course ahead. Plus his pace & acceleration. A kind of mental spatial awareness/speed coupled with herculean brute force. Just a couple of strides after catching a ball he had acquired unstoppable momentum & speed. Part of the problems opponents had in tackling him was they didn't make the mental corrections about just how far he was going to have travelled in a given number of milliseconds, it caused a kind of misjudgement, being outside their normal experience

Its more than that imo. For me Lomu was the man who started the change in players that we see today, look at the men he was up against, they were strong men because of what they did for a living but lomu was built different. He was really the stand out compared to the people around him when he first hit the main stage, this was a guy that showed being physically big and strong and fast gave teams a headache. In the entire spirt started to change because of him. The professional game started to look into player development in the gym, nutrition, recovery etc, all because 1 man stood out so much with natural ability. Once Lomu set the standard l, it was a case of catch up or be left behind. Now not everybody in the modern game is built like Lomu, but the few that are do not make the headway Lomu did because their opposition are more capable to match them. Interesting, now the balance has started to swing back to the smaller more agile player, they can skip past the bigger guys 'easier' than a size up crunch.. having said that, once they are caught.. it can be a bad day at the office 😅

He was a legend, but he was never the best ever. His defence was not that great and needed space to gather speed. The South Africans were able to shut him down. Once again, I am sure there will be haters on this comment he is a legend.

I agree, he was terrible if he got turned around. I mean if he got space and speed forward he was great, but no, not the best ever.
