Great video, Brian. Your ideas are not just for renters but for old folks (I'm one) who might be nervous about doing too much in the way of "permanent" wiring mods to their homes. It's also good for those wanting to get their feet wet in the smart home arena. I didn't realize Govee had NFC in their app...Switchbot, too. Does Govee just support NFC on iPHones right now? I have one, but didn't see it for Android phones although that might show up in the Android Govee app. With the NFC, I wish they had a toggle function so you could turn 'em on and off with the same tag. I know Hue supports toggling. I like the switch covers and use them. They're also a good place to put NFC tags (on the inside of the switch cover.). Oh, I like you encouraging (maybe) the use of hubs especially for those folks who don't want to update their WiFi networks as hubs take a big load off as there is only one device added (Hue hub, for example). That hub might handle 15-20 devices that might otherwise be competing for a WiFi spot on your network. Keep it up, my (our) friend!!!

Is there a way to use an nfc tag to run a routine like... Turn up phone volume to max Open youtube Play certain video I have a patient that needs certain music during their showers or they freak out. So a quick nfc tap to do that would be nice

It's going to depend on which phone type you have, but yes! Android, you'd use Tasker iPhone, you'd use shortcuts

Battery operated z-wave motion and other sensors CAN be slower to respond, but USB powered ones are not.

I wish smartwatches could be utilised to scan the NFC tags to trigger & process automations on the device so you didn’t have to always carry your phone
@AutomateYourLife

That would be the winner right there...

@@AutomateYourLife Given that you can trigger a Shortcut from an Apple Watch I would have thought it’s possible to use the watch to scan the NFC tag (given that it uses NFC for Apple Pay) & hasn’t the HomeKit hub device to the actual processing in the home

@@AutomateYourLife excuuuuuuuuse me. I should have said it in a very nice way. It's a compliment when one points out a flaw. It means they want you to succeed. So go and do it. And nobody will ever think it of you again. And use hand lotion. Eucerin or Elizabeth Arden. Do it now.
