you’re kind of stuck with a 3-4 foot face on most of em but they say when they figure it out the biggest break will have an 8 foot face. and room to pump it up to be really heavy if there’s a professional competition. whether it’s huge or not it’s still the most efficient wavepool design of all time.
@anarchistangler

Is it wind affected? Can strong winds make it onshore and mess up the surf, I wonder?
@commie281
4 жыл бұрын
anarchistangler yes it’s wind affected but when it’s onshore one way it’s offshore the other and side shore in other areas. ideally there’s less wind and there usually won’t be much since it’ll most likely not be near the coast(for future models). just an advantage to other wavepools because it’s either offshore or glassy everywhere or it’s onshore everywhere and completely ruined. at least here some breaks are salvageable when there is occasionally wind.

Awesome. I suppose the next step is refining the shape of the plunger. This will allow directing more of the energy used raising it into better more focused longer waves. A sort of star pattern with curved sections between the points, with the curve creating a longer swell that doesn't soften out so quickly and keeps its height longer, will be the next step. Physics allows that shape to be whatever as long as its the same mass falling and the same surface area of the angled part that pushes the water into a waveform directed towards shore. lowering the resistance for anything not projecting swell and applying that as a reverse curve to focus swell on the specific 'reefs' will allow more wave with the same energy input of electric motors lifting mass. Reducing suction would be a big help to increase wave energy as well. Possibly a golf ball dimple pattern on the vertical surfaces, or even a bubble system that projects tiny bubbles from the bottom edge of vertical surfaces would allow it to fall faster and move more water from the surfaces that are angled and projecting swell. Wish I could surf still, to many knee and back injuries for me, have at it everyone I will man the grill and throw a frisbee around ;)

@@thefeldenkraiscenter I grew up watching tiny waves waiting for bigger ones, in the era before swell forecasting. Used to make waves using bodyboards in little tide pools in the sand and watch the tiny waves break on little sandbars. Its the same as this thing in miniature, you push the bodyboard down into the water and it displaces it making a wave just like this machine. I know, talk about bored. Satellites determining open ocean wind speed and wave measuring buoys prevent that level of boredom these days :P One day few friends and I did it on mass in a buddies pool, water spilled out everywhere, the parents were not happy!

I think it’s logical that if you want a longer ride you obviously have to make the lake twice as big. Then you have to compensate that by having the plunger power stronger and larger to push that wave a further distance. But yes ,, experimenting with the plunger design to get more efficiency and wave shapes would be super interesting…👍🏽… your insight is great.. I’m not knocking what has already been created. I realize this is still in the prototype stages. I think it’s absolutely amazing what they have made..👍🏽🙏🏽

Surf lakes looks like the mechanics to upscale, and it would be great to see larger, various shaped, natural looking 'lakes' where you would see the lines rolling in further from the plunger and creating a greater variety of breaks, but that'd be a 'lot' of energy, first things first I guess, climate action and green energy development

The added plus is that you can add more rubber to perfect the shape of the wave.
