A great way to coil a rope. Thanks for showing. Contrary to some comments, this method of winding prevents the rope from twisting because the small twists cancel each other out. I finish the windings upwards because then nothing comes loose.

I fold the rope and start in the middle of the rope. When you lock it off, the two ends can be used to make a backpack out of the whole rope.
You can also lock it with a bowline. I love this way. Been doing since I was rock climbing 10 years ago

I do the same but with the rope doubled up and it can be tied to you like a back pack with the tales if needed

I often use around knees then neck. If it's possible i sit on a stone or a low bench so i get a semi-squat position. Then wrap apround the neck and then around the knees back around neck.

Thank you! This was very helpful for me coiling up some rope. Last time i just winged it and ended up with a knotted mess when i used it again here

I wish they had us do it this way at mountain warfare school. Seems much more effective at not gassing your arms out while making those coils!

This method works great. Sometimes gets tangled as you untie.

I find it great also. The tangles dont really bother me, maybe because its early in the job compaired to wrapping rope which is like close to last, to get tangles out of the lines. Especially bull ropes i can hardly wrap up our 3/4 inch bull ropes screw doing it after climbing all day

I like it, however. Since ive went to using a rope bag. Ill likely never coil a rope again.. So much more convenient, at least for me it is.

you can't just unwrap and drop, like the hand coil or whatever its called. you have to unwrap and carefully seperate both sides of the coil and lay it down (should be double the coiled rope in length) It's more work def but i swear my rope gets tangled even if i keep it once nice coil... thank you sticks!!

rope has memory so coiling your rope the same way over n over is one of the stupidest things you can do with your rope. get a rope bag and stuff it in there, plus it’s protected from the elements, with no kinks in the rope from coiling it the same way, day after day. and you’re not working your shoulders even more after just using them to climb. in this line of work, you don’t want your body repeating the same movements every day, switch it up, that way you’ll stay in the game longer. 28 years and counting.👊🏼
