I actually really appreciate this slower method of filleting trout. It seems more fool proof and great for first timers. Stay unique. Every other video I've seen on this looks like the presenter is trying to show me a magic trick. It's not an quick an easy thing to do your first time. Just to show how good your work is you should have shown the carcass and the back side of the skinned fillet. You did a awesome job

@@AznSyKc0 Thank you for the encouraging comment. My purpose with these videos is for others to learn. It is hard to learn when each step isn’t shown carefully. Haters want people to believe this method isn’t good because it isn’t a super short video. I’m taking my time explaining it. So thanks again for your positivity.

Thanks for showing this. There are some nasty comments in here. I just wanted to say I appreciate this video. I have never filleted my fish in over 20 years and wanted to learn how. Your process has been the easisest to understand that I have seen so far. Thanks for slowing it down for me.

What’s the best method for sharpening that knife and how often do you do it?
@RedCastleOutdoors
2 ай бұрын
@@jasonjones6428 We have another video where we explain how to sharpen a fillet knife. I use a steel rod sharpener for just a quick sharpening. If the knife is really dull then I use a whetstone to create a new edge on the blade and then the steel rod to finalize the sharpening. It really just depends how often you fillet fish and how well the blade is used. A knife can get dulled quickly if used improperly or if you fillet a ton of fish often. I used to work at a trout farm and we filleted hundreds of fish in a day and would sharpen the knives daily.

@@oldguyonacouch7216 If you are referring to cutting the meat off from the side. Yeah it might be easier, but it also wastes some of the meat. I worked at a trout farm for 7 years filleting 10’s of thousands of trout. This butterfly method was the preferred method for filleting customer’s trout.

@@RedCastleOutdoors I've watched and used your method following your video from 8 years ago. It is the best way to save all the meat but to be honest I only use it for smaller trout where meat is precious. For larger nicer trout like this one, I am more quick and dirty, loosing all that nice fatty belly meat
