When it comes to improving your concentration levels and increasing your ability to focus, there are obvious benefits that will improve your game more-or-less instantly. Firstly, you’re paying close attention to what’s happening within the game, so you’re more likely to see the runs of your teammates or identify a dangerous run from one your opponents.
Because football is played at such a fast pace we need to rely on split second decision making and, if we aren’t concentrating, our decision making is going to be slower, our reaction times are going to be sluggish and we’re going to miss out the opportunities presented to us.
But there’s another reason why concentration and focus is enormously important for every football player…
And, for me, this reason is more important than any other!
Let’s think about the very best game you’ve ever played…
When you were playing in this game, I’m going to guess that everything you did felt… effortless.
You might have covered more ground, had more intensity about your game, things just seemed to click.
And at the same time, you felt like you could play all day long.
Now think: when you were doing everything brilliantly, what were you thinking about?
I ask this because when we are performing to our very best levels, most of the impressive things we do are actually instinctive… it’s automatic… it’s almost like you have a sixth sense and you simply KNOW exactly what to do… and you do it without thinking…
