Dracula X is a punishing experience. It is beautiful and the music is absolutely brilliant. But the difficulty can drive you insane. While the classic trilogy gave you a learning curve, this game just throws everything at you from the go. When you are familiar with classic Castlevania it dosent feel so hard, but as soon as you enter stage 2 the game breaks you. Never was get good asap so true. Not my most favorite Vania, but a replay is long overdue.

@@BelmontGaming The last time i played it was ten years ago. I think my glory gaming days were i took the challenge and run with it are over. My first steps were during the Atari amd VC20 times. The NES was my gaming prime. The SNES and N64 were my second spring. With Gamecube and WII i reached my zenith. With the X Box one i reached my gereatic age. I saw every evolution console and pc gaming made. Was a long and fun journey. I was able to beat Ninja Gaiden deathless. Megaman was my territory. Castlevania took me, as a horror fan, by storm. But with age comes bad eyesight, slower reflexes and reaction time sucks. I still do good in my eyes but far away from what once was. I'm thankful for modern options of save states and the rewind future. It helps me playing my beloved classic at my terms. I will replay it next week. Lets see what that old man can do ;)

I want to clear this up before i finish your video which I have loved everything you put out by the way. You are partially correct that it was supposed to be a port of Rondo of Blood, however it wasn't due to the limitations of the system. The SNES could have easily replicated the Levels and cuteness with compressed audio via chip like Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean. The cutscnes would have similar to Valis 3 or Super Valis 4. The reason this was so different even though the same assets were used. The actual reason has does to do with legal issues with Hudson and NEC. There was some sort of legality that kept the game exclusive for so long. We didn't get an official release stateside after ironically enough Konami bought them out. So its not a port rather a retelling of the story.

Ah! Dracula X, the black sheep of the advance collection haha, it's an amazing game as long as you have the rewind and savestate features, otherwise it's hell, I first played it years ago but I couldn't finish it because of it's insane dificulty, then years later I learned that it was a "port" of Rondo of Blood and played that one instead, and I loved it from beggining to end, and with that I understood why people hates Dracula X, but I don't hate it, the graphics and sound are amazing after all, and it also has my favorite version of "Divine Bloodlines" ever so maybe I'll give it another chance now that it has been re-released

I loved both versions of Rondo of Blood, is just Dracula X/Vampire Kiss is the misfit of the collection here, but that aside, is still a great game overall, one thing I agree to hate is the Dracula battle, almost always is a 1-hit death to you as is extremely likely you end up falling of the battlefield, being forced to restart the very slow battle against the count (but just like Divine Bloddlines, Dance of Illusions sounds great, another favorite for me in the game is the clock tower stage song... that I forgot it's name... again).

I actually find this game harder than 1 and 3 and NES. The enemy placement at times is outright sadistic and the jumps. My god the jumps. Go to the absolute last pixel possible and hope you don't fall off instead to make the jump. At times when it's absurd jumps and sadistic enemy placement it makes the stairs in Castlevania 3 look fair by comparison. I've never beaten the game, but it's not from dying but becoming frustrated with those game design choices and quitting. However, when it's not doing stuff like that it is really fun and gorgeous to look at and the soundtrack for an SNES game is god tier. But, yes, Rondo absolutely blows it out of the water. I will say though it has been around 10 years since I last gave it a go and should give it another fair try. I do want to say I got to Dracula in this one at least once.

Gotta say that I saw the Dracula battle rant coming, I mean... who won't complain about that BS battlefield to begin with? (oh, and also the way you have to get the best ending of the game) While the game is the misfit of the GBA Collection, is perhaps the best (legal) way to play the game thanks to the quality of life (emulation) shenanigans (rewind is a bless for this one).

Rondo of Blood is my fav Classicvania and, to me, Dracula X felt like a poor, closed beta access Rondo. The stages, the enemies and bosses and the level design were so randomly assigned and designed that they didn't live to what Rondo did, it didn't had a logical sequence. And also little stuff like defeating a boss and instantly going to a new area with no points recount felt awkward. The pixel quality and background is also quite lazy in comparison. I'd give it a 4/10 tbh. I simply can't manage to overview its flaws and enjoy the game properly and I wish I could.

There is a lot to like about the port of DX however for every thing good about it there seem to be some baffling decisions made. The spritework and sound design are amazing and a testament to the dev team. No, I feel the original NES title was a classic and fair challenge as most were. The issue is the game isn’t good, hard games can be fun like most CV games. This was a quick conversion by at best Kanomi B team. Baits your with a pretty first stage, the game slowly loses you as it goes. It’s boring, Rhonda is a solid SMW like classic while this is a game fit for game boy seeing those were the same to develop the handheld flops. Zero to do with comparing it to the free roam style games.
