Minas Gerais completed 302 years last year. Land of the people of Luzia, it was the first inhabitant of Minas, considered the oldest human fossil in the Americas. In fact, Luzia descend from the same migratory wave from East Asia, which arrived on the continent around 20,000 years ago. Gold, diamonds and precious stones were discovered in the state of Minas in the 17th century, with the help of indigenous people who wore gold adornments. It was the first and largest diaspora in the world, with the arrival of immigrants, mostly Europeans soon after African slaves (labor market), in addition to native Indians. The gold cycle in Minas changed Brazil, making it the Brazilian economic center. Ouro Preto became the most populous city in Latin America, at this time, New York had less than half the number of inhabitants and São Paulo was still a village. England also benefited the most from the gold. The Portuguese language became dominant in Brazil, just because of the gold from Minas, because previously only Nheengatu was spoken. Thus, the idea of Brazil came out of Minas Gerais, as well as the indignation over the spill, Inconfidência Mineira, an important role in the foreshadowing of the nation. The discovery of gold brought a very big impact on the geopolitics of Brazil, it made the country unified (States) not fragmenting like the Spanish colonies, it gave rise to the coffee economy, cattle farms, among other segments. The Minas region became the richest in the entire Portuguese empire, which was fundamental in the economic development and history of Brazil. It is worth visiting the cities of Ouro Preto, Diamantina and other historic cities in Minas Gerais. Santos Dumont: the inventor of the airplane was born in Minas Gerais.

Most of the paintings in the Pampulha Church (the chapel you entered) are by Cândido Portinari, a very famous plastic artist in Brazilian Literature, we also have some works by Alfredo Ceschiatti, another very relevant artist. I suggest that you visit other cities close to Belo Horizonte, especially Ouro Preto. You will see a huge contrast between what is more modern in Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte) and what is more ancient (Ouro Preto). Ouro Preto was one of the main cities in the construction of the State of Minas Gerais, it is full of stories and marks of time. And it has a very pleasant atmosphere at night, when the city takes on an extra charm.

You should eat "Tutu de feijão", meet some waterfalls, find some uncle to make you coffee there...Enjoy the city, but the best in Minas is the countryside.

Speaking on Oscar Nyemayer, you didn't note that at Praça da Liberdade there are a tall building projected by him. In fact we can see it far away in some moments of the video. And you lost the gems and stones museum too. Take care not losing important things next time, as happened at Mercado Central, too.

Belo Horizonte sometimes is called Belory Hills and in 0:53 I can see my home. Praça do Papa has this name because Pope John Paul II visited the town in 1980. While Praça da Liberdade, including the buildings, was completely renovated in 1910s to be inspired in Versailles to receive the Belgian Royal Family (1920) and the British Royal Family (1931). Parque Guanabara has been our Disneyland for more than 70 years and is estimated that Lagoa da Pampulha has more than 40 yacares (the brazilian crocodilian).

03:04 That animal is called Quati ( _kooah tshee_ ). It's a South American species of raccoon (warmer climate = less fur than the North American raccoon). Anteater in Brazil is called Tamanduá ( _tah maan doo ah_ ).
